It's newly fledged, and feeling rather fragile, but... it's a science fiction idea.

I have this other race, basically human, but born in pairs. They're physic only with each other; they're two people but one.

This race runs into actual humans, you know, the whole alien-contact deal. Our main character is at the forefront of this contact. The humans kill his otheres, thus making him a freak - his twin/other is dead. He is netiher human nor alien, so he's picked to talk to the humans, because he most resembles them.

He comes from this society I've been working out, which is rather complicated. The government is a Triumverate, and it's sort of communist; children are assigned a job at birth.

The reproductive system works as such: Bio-engineers (esteemed) create sets of twins by cloning, but use radiation so no DNA is replicated. If DNA were replicated, a virus would be able to wipe them all out.

There's several social classes; The Triumverate, the most powerful, Bio-engineers, second most powerful, and from there it goes Government Workers, Menial Works, and the undesirables, defects.

The farther north you live, the richer/more powerful you are. So the Triumverate is farthest north, next the Bio-engineers, and so forth. The defects are far south; retards, deformed people, so forth. They are farmers.

There are four training facilities babies/children are sent to; the Government, the Menials, and the Defects. At age eight, the children are taken and raised, basically as apprentices. (Why not such childbirth? Why would these people training them want to raise a baby?) The bio-engineers keep their own training facility near them.

Our main character; a very pissed, unhappy little boy. The humans vivisected his other in front of him. I'm toying with the idea of having the aliens want to attack the humans, maybe by pretending to discover a third race, and pair up with the humans against them, but really the two alien races know each other quite well. The aliens are just pretending to be with the humans to know all their plans.

But our main character has fallen in love with earth, and has two options; side with his race, or the humans.

The idea is ok...the diploid psychic humanoids, the left-behind twin, has some drama. What would you hope to accomplish by having this scenario? Does the single "twin" imprint upon the human and manage psychic contact? Is that the aim here, or simply because he's the only singleton (hard to fathom unless you're conjecturing no disease and a violent-death-only, essentially nonviolent philosophy as a result of shared mentality).
There's a lot of room here and a lot of places to go.
