Raven Litherntorn exhaled an exhausted breath, ‘I’m too old for this.’ He reckoned, stepping over the corpse of the guardsman. He glanced towards the door, nothing remained of the paladin, bar his entrails and the mess he’d left all up the door and ceiling. He mopped his brow with a white cloth he’d taken from his pocket, replacing it he strolled back to his desk. Thankfully nothing had been disturbed, although light specs of blood stained several papers, he sighed and sat back in place.
He’d little taste for violence, but if the situation called for it he was well equip. With a shaking hand he yanked open one of the draws attached to the desk. Inside he found his purse, several quills, a folded envelope, a hand held mirror and a neat stack of filed notes. Placing the purse and envelope in his pockets he then grabbed the mirror, bringing it to his face he was surprised to find he looked quite calm. His silvery hair still neatly combed his dulling black moustache still thick, not a strand out of place. His eyes were slightly bloodshot but anyone would mistake that to being overworked, standing he placed the mirror back in the draw and closed it. Straitening his clothes he quickly made for the door.
A hushed knock from the other side caused Raven to almost fall backwards. ‘Don’t come in!’ he screamed, standing amidst the corpses.
‘It’s me, Mr. Litherntorn,’ a voiced squeaked from the other side, ‘Are you still with the uniforms?’
‘One might say that…’ He shook his head and quietly added, ‘Come in Maries.’
The door open slightly and snapped shut almost as quickly, Maries stood just in front of the door, a single, horrified, expression painted onto her face. Dressed completely in grey she fashioned neatly trimmed dirty blonde hair, a stupidly large pair of glasses dominated her thin face making her cobalt blue eyes bulge to the size of ripe oranges. Her face drained of all colour, ‘What… happened?’ She breathed, almost to herself.
‘Little trouble with the law, nothing too serious.’ He stepped over the guardsman and stood next to her, surveying the damage, ‘Listen, Maries, you need to leave Kinthrin tonight, leave the whole of Rinthera if you can.’ Her eyes filled with tears, she was in shock ‘This whole building will be swarming with paladins and imperials come sunrise, anyone working here will be sentenced to death.’
‘B-but why? This is a governmental building, all we do is-is… what do we do?’
‘As far as you know we document and file important government cases, and that’s all we do ok?’ She nodded ‘Good, tell the others they’re onto us. I must take flight, stay safe Maries.’ Raven opened the door, gave his secretary a warming smile and gently closed it behind him.
