Chapter 13: The Lament
As we started to walk through the barrier i heard my mom calling out to me. "Aiden, Aiden, get back here, dont go near that thing!!" she said frantically while her and my dad ran towards me. It was too late, we already made up our minds, besides who knows what could happen if we dont go in. Not even my parents could stop me now.
"Come on guys, lets go" i said as we walked through We looked back through the purple barrier and could see my mom and dad hitting it to try to force their way in to get me. I tried to get their attention to see if they could see me and tell them im fine, but it seems they couldn't see anything past it. We all looked forward toward the castle. The Lament looked awesome and breath taking. It was all purple with a spiral of black going all the way up to the top. The gargoyles were blue, the demons were green. They were definitely breathing.
As we started to walk inside of the castle the statues turned their heads and roared in unison.
"Shit, are you sure we should be doing this Aiden!?" Galvin said cowering in fear
"Yes, we have to..." I responded
"Sylph has been expecting you,"
We looked up and one of the gargoyles was talking to us
"You can talk...Is that why we could walk through the shield around this place?" I asked
"Yes, no one else can come in because they were not expected." the gargoyle replied
"Why is it that everyone can see this place?" I continue "Everything else we have experienced no one else saw."
"The very person who unleashed Sylph is in this place, Sylph needed the person who freed him in order to manifest in the physical realm." He continued to talk in a raspy, growling voice "Before he was like a ghost, couldn't be seen, nor heard, unless he wanted to be."
"Thats stupid, why would he want to be physical!?" I yelled while Galvin and Liam were looking on
"So that he can torment and kill any he wants!" He laughed
"Why is he expecting us? He knows were just going to put an end to this!" After i asked the question i peered over to Liam and Galvin. Liam never looked more brave, he was intent on getting inside and saving his brother. Galvin looked extremely scared, i think it was the gargoyle, he did have a terrifying voice.
"He is expecting you so that he can be done with you," He continued while getting louder "You are the only one who can stop him, anyone who was present the time he was freed. That is why he killed that woman and your friend, and why the rest of you will die!" He started laughing in an evil way
As he was laughing i thought it all made sense now. We freed Sylph, he disguised himself as a kid to get to know us a little, the people who set him free. He killed Brogan, he killed that woman who was spying. Thats why the attacks recently were all isolated, he wanted to out us without doing it himself. It all made perfect sense.
"Come on guys!" I yelled as we started to run inside
"Have a nice trip!" the gargoyle said sarcastically
As we got in the castle a huge door shut us in
"Noo, how are we going to get out!?" Galvin shouted while trying to open the door with no avail
"Dont worry about it now Galvin, we have to get Carlow and Brendan!" Liam demanded
We looked around and noticed there were three hallways to go through, obviously splitting up is a bad idea. The interior of the place looked almost identical to the exterior, minus the statues. Throughout each hallway were several lit torches mounted on the walls. Inside would be pretty dark if it wasnt for the torches.
"Which way should we go?" Galvin asked as he was looking down each one
"Hmm, how about to the left?" Liam suggested while pointing
"Lets just go straight, well check the other ones later." I said while starting to walk through the path ahead.
As we started walking through the hallway i looked up towards the ceiling and could see several murals of what looked like people fighting off some type of creature, it looked like they were loosing though.
Pictures of what looked like armor clad warriors sticking spears through the chest of large beasts, while the beast they were stabbing ripped their limbs off with their bare hands.
"Hey, look what i brought!" Liam said while holding a rusted knife, he continued "Its made of iron, i found it in my dads drawer." He said with a grin
"Thats cool, i would have brought something, but this happened so suddenly i couldn't go back to get anything." I replied
"You have your coin though right?" Galvin asked
"Oh, well yeah, but i kind of don't want to use it." I said while holding it
"Shh, do you hear that!?" Liam whispered
"Hear what?" I asked whispering back
"Shh, hide!" he commanded while pulling us toward the wall
We looked on down the hallway and saw something about four feet in length walking across. "It's a changeling," I whispered as we got lower. This changeling was a bit different though, it didn't look entirely like a child. It looked more demonic, with red eyes, what looked like teeth sticking out of his lips, and his face looked a bit morphed. After he walked by we started to get back up, we were scared to death.
"Damn, I'm really not too crazy about seeing another changeling." Liam said as he was still looking in the direction it walked in
"You said it, last time we killed one it was a fluke, who knows if something like that will happen again." I responded
We continued to walk down the hall until we came to an opening. It was a big room, it was the size of a basket ball court. It had what looked like gates suspended on the walls. We saw a door on the other side and started walking towards it.
"I don't like this room!" Galvin stated
"I don't think any of us like any rooms of this place," Liam responded
The gates started opening, one of us must have stepped on a button. What came out of it were flying creatures. Thankfully it wasn't a fire phly, they looked like faeries.
"Thank you, you freed us!" A faery said
They all started surrounding us. They didn't look bad, they actually looked pleasing to the eyes. They had an orange aura around them, and they had a serene tone of voice. They were about two feet in length, but were flying at above eye level.
"Yeah, and because you freed us, you get one wish!" Another faery said
"Oh really!?" Galvin asked with a twinkle in his eye, i could tell he really wanted to get out of here
"Ok, how about you destroy Sylph, and bring Carlow and my brother Brendan here so we can leave?" Liam suggested
"Oh, we cannot do that." the faery replied while having a sad face
"Well, why not!?" I demanded
"Because, Sylph is our master, and the only wish we can grant you is your death!" It screamed as it and the other faeries went higher in the air.
They started swooping down like hawks to torment us. They wielded pretty sharp claws.
"We have to get out of here!!" Galvin screamed
"Yeah, but how!?" I asked while covering my head from the constant attacks from the faeries. They kept using their claws and making pretty deep scratches on us. But while they were doing this, they seemed to spot the coin around my neck.
"He has iron!!" a faery screamed while cowering away
The other faeries followed suit and scurried away. We slowly got up and dusted ourselves off. We started looking around for signs of anymore, but found nothing else.
"Damn Aiden, your hurt bad!" Liam shouted while holding my arms
"Yeah, well, i don't care." I continued while i pulled my sleeves over them "We have to find Carlow and Brendan so we can get out of here!"
As we reached the other side of the door we heard screaming in the distance. We looked back and it was a couple of the faeries.
"You will not get out of here alive!" They screamed
I looked at Liam and somehow knew what it is he was going to do. I decided to do the same. He pulled out his knife, while i snapped the coin off my neck and held it out as the faery's head made contact with it.
Liam's knife went through the chest of the other faery. The knife made the faery fall apart and turn to dust like all the other creatures have.
"Ooow, you burned me you stupid fucking kid!" the faery shouted as it flew away for good
"Thats a good way for a faery to kill itself hmm?" Liam said with a smile while looking at me and Galvin
"Wow, that was cool, i wish i had some iron." Galvin stated with a sigh
"We will protect you, don't worry." I said while trying to open the door
The door had a pattern on it. The pattern was an indented line going in a semi circle pattern around the center of the door. It had one semi circle on one side and one on the other. I traced both of my index fingers on both sides simultaneously, and it opened instantly.
"Whoa, how did you do that!?" Liam gasped while looking at me in amazement
"No one knows a story better than its author." I said with a smirk
He and Galvin laughed "I guess your right!" Liam responded
We started making our way out of the room and into the 'courtyard' area from my story. I looked up and saw the beautiful, yet haunting night sky. I also saw the clouds that looked as if they were shadows swirling around each other.
"Just like my story, Zilka saw this very same thing." I stated in amazement, "Wait, if its the same as in my story, then that means a fire phly is in this room!" I whispered to them in fear.
"What's so special about these fire phly things?" Liam continued while shouting "And why do you keep bringing them up!?"
As he was shouting a large rock was moving, we thought it could be an earthquake but we weren't moving. It wasn't a rock at all.
"What is THAT thing!?" Galvin shouted while pointing to it
I knew exactly what it was: a creature of at least fifteen feet tall, a disproportioned face, big hands and legs, and obviously incredible strength.
"It's a Gnome..." I stated while i looked on in awe and fear
"Lets get out of here!" Galvin panicked
I turned to Liam and saw he was looking down at his knife, i knew what he was going to try. I couldn't let him do it.
"Liam, don't even think about it!" I demanded while holding onto his arm to hold him back
"Stop Aiden, I'm going to kill this thing, hes slow, he wont catch me!" He shouted
I lost my grip and he ran towards the gnome. Liam was very brave for doing the things he has done so far, but maybe a bit too hasty. The gnome tried to swing at him, but he rolled out of the way and managed to stab him in the leg.
"Liam, get back here, NOW!" I screamed while running towards him
The gnome stopped attacking and looked down at his leg. He let out a loud booming yell and started flailing trying to hit Liam. He managed to pull the knife back out of the gnomes leg, and he almost punched Liam into the ground. I dived on to him and the punch went over us.
"Lets go, now!" I yelled while pulling Liam toward the direction of the drop down gate
We managed to get inside with the gate dropping behind us and the gnome couldn't even break through.
"Just like in the story," I said to myself
I looked over to Liam who was getting up to dust himself off. I was pissed, i couldn't believe he could be so irrational all the time.
I punched him in the arm "Ow, what was that for!?" He said as he recoiled
"You could have been killed," I continue while yelling at him "Gnomes are NOT faeries, they are a different race, they wont die from iron!"
"Oh, well, why didn't you tell me!?" He shouted back while rubbing his arm
"I couldn't, you ran off-"
"Guys, whats that noise?" Galvin interrupted while looking ahead
What we heard was what sounded like sheet metal. If you were to wave sheet metal through the air in an up and down motion. It could only be the fire phlys.
"It's them!" I continue while motioning everyone to start running "It's a fire phly, we have to move, now!"
It was too late, there it was, standing right in front of us. A half bug and half human creature, it had little buds on his head that resembled horns. It had the protruding lower jaw sticking out a good foot away from his head, and how could i forget the long tongue?
"What are we going to do Aiden!?" Galvin asked while backing up
"I don't know, i am not sure if its a faery since i never stated so in my story." I answered while backing up with him
The fire phly let out a terrifying scream that made our ears feel like bursting. It dashed toward us at very quick speeds, ready to cut any one of us with its wings.
"Get out of the way!!" I commanded while dropping to the ground, they followed suit.
The creature flew over us, the wings just barely missing me but cut Galvin a little on the leg. It realized it wasn't going to get us by doing that so it let out its tongue. It whipped it around while the oily residue splashed off of its tongue like a leaky water hose. It lashed its tongue out at Galvin and managed to wrap it around him, and drug him to the ground with great force.
"Galvin, I'll get you!" Liam yelled as he got out his knife and ran towards him
The fire phly started what sounded like hacking and created a spark that seemed to ignite his tongue.
"I forgot, his tongue is coated with flammable liquid, hurry!" I yelled while running toward Galvin to get him out
While we were trying to get the tongue off, the fire was traveling down it as if someone made a line of gasoline on the ground. We were trying to get the tongue off of Galvin's legs but it was way too strong. As soon as the fire was going to reach him and set him aflame a drop of his blood dropped onto its tongue. It was inches away from getting to him and then it let go and started screaming and writhing in pain. It's tongue was still on fire as he was swinging it around throwing fire everywhere. It looked as if it was being sucked inside of himself and then exploded.
Sand blew everywhere, and blew us back. The explosion created a very powerful wind that pinned us in place, it was even hard to breathe. The hurricane-like winds lasted for awhile before it finally stopped.
We got up rather slowly to check and see if everyone was ok. We were in a daze.
"Boy, that was climactic." Liam joked while still in a daze
We laughed "Yeah, it was." I continued while trying to stand "I guess it was a faery afterall, but by blood?"
"Who knows, and who cares, lets just go." Liam commented
We looked ahead and saw a door. It must have been behind the fire phly the whole time.
"I know Carlow and your brother are through that door." I stated while walking to it
"I hope so, i really do." Liam responded while he and Galvin looked on
Chapter 14: No More, I'm brain storming it now!
