Nothing, but there are so many stories here that it most likely won't be.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've beenon sites like this for awhile and have never had a problem.

If you want to be absolutely sure keep your work well documented. I keep a work log and record the work that has been done at the end of the day. If I write five chapters on Monday October the Thrid for example I record it in the log. Paper trails are the best ways to properly protect your work. That or you can fork up the fee for the US Copyright Office for nearly absolute security.

Unless you are 100% sure you yourself haven't plagurized the story, then don't post it. Personally, i doubt whatever story you have been writing is 100% original, purely because i've read many stories on this website, naturally most are to an extent original, but there are always the trail backs to their source, for example the piece in my signature is clearly heavily influenced by Lotrt, i've come around to realising theres no real point in me continuing along these lines, so i'm keeping the basic story line and character names, yet getting rid off the 'elves and orcs' etc.

In all honesty, whats to keep someone plagurising your work years later once (if) published anyway? They could just do as i did with my piece, change the names and the basic outline. Basically, just post the first chapter and let us see if it's any good, i can't see many people here desperate for storylines.
