Violet Flames
I havent realy thought of a title for this story yet but that will do for now.
This is one of my first stories that I have written for fun so I expect it to have a few errors.
I take most of my insporation from Kelley Armstrong and try to write in the same style of her.
So heres the first draft of the first 3 chapters.
*******
So there I was, stood at gunpoint to the girl that I had loved for two whole years. The best two years in my life may I add.
Let me take you back. Back to the beginning.
Chapter 1 – Old Friends
“Hey, Vash!” came a far cry from a voice that was so familiar my heart jumped.
“Charlie, is that you?” My eyes had to focus before I could get to grips with the woman that I only knew from a young age, ten to be exact.
You see, as a child you always wonder what it would be like to have a really cool special power like flight or to be able to control fire at your finger tips, how I wish it was only a dream.
From the beginning of my life I was raised by two of the most understanding parents that you could ever wish for. The type that used to get hassle from there’s so decide to make your life better because they didn’t get it. But I just wish that I didn’t have to put them through what I have become.
“Yes it’s me, how have you been I haven’t seen you since I was little and we were in Mrs Thompson’s class.” Her voice had changed, what did I expect? It’s been six years since I last saw her. She had grown up. Not just from the shape of her body but from the way she wasn’t kicking me trying to get a strawberry bootlace.
“Yeah, where have you been? I heard that you moved from Chepstow and went to live in England.”
“Yeah my mum got a job there that paid a lot better so we had to move. I preferred it, a lot more happens there and I have a lot of friends now. Do you still live here?”
“Nah, I moved along time ago, I’ve just come back to visit some old friends.”
“Me too, you’re not here to see that idiot Craig are you?”
“Hey!” A small voice came from behind me.
“Shit” Charlie said under her breathe.
Me, Craig and Charlie used to be best friends when we were in school and had promised that we always would be. I hate how life can throw changes at you when you don’t want them. We grew up at Chepstow Primary school and always used to get in trouble with the teachers because of Craig, he always used to do something bad that he would always get caught doing. He never learned his lesson though.
“Idiot?! What did I ever do to deserve that?”
Charlie gave me a sharp glance that could shatter bones.
“I’m not the one who called him an idiot” I said trying to keep a straight face.
“Nice to meet you too, Charlie.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that, I meant to say, are you two still friends?”
“Oh, well you worded it just right then didn’t you? And yes we are. Vash has just come to visit me because I told him Evanescence were playing Chepstow.”
“Evanescence?! You have to take me along” Charlie said in a desperate voice.
“Oh you like them then do you? Its a good thing we got back stage passes then isn’t it?”
Craig always tried to make Charlie jealous. I could swear he liked her.
“Like them! I love them; I have all their albums and posters all over my wall. I would turn gay for her.”
I laughed “That’s a bit extreme don’t you think?”
“Hell no! Please let me come with you, I’m begging you”
“Well we do have one ticket spare don’t we?”
“Yeah but... I thought we were going to sell it to get food”
“I’m sure you could live with one less McDonalds don’t you think?”
Craig hesitated but eventually gave up the ticket to Charlie.
“I’ll just go home and Goth up then”
I don’t see why she had to ‘Goth’ up. She already had long blue hair that went to the her behind, enough eye liner to sink a ship and boots with souls thick enough she could cause an earthquake. Not that I was paying attention.
She had grown up. More than I thought any of us would, she probably had so many guys clambering over each other to get to her that they would fight to the death.
Charlie walked off after we had agreed on a place to meet each other before the Gig. The roundabout, a place that we used to meet as kids. Ok so where not exactly grownups but at the age of sixteen you have grown up a bit.
“Just like the old days hey Vash?” Craig said in an enthusiastic voice. This is the most excited that I had ever seen him in a long time. I couldn’t wait.
*******
I got dressed at Craig’s house. I decided to spike my hair up because I had just got it cut from being shoulder length to it just covering my ears. I had a choice of black to a slightly lighter shade of black in terms of shirts and a pair of ripped up denim jeans. I put on my trusty Doc Martins and set off to the roundabout.
Craig was clicking all the way because of the trousers he had on. Chains everywhere. He got stuck twice on the way their because I had to untie them for him.
We got to the roundabout and about five minutes later Charlie showed up. Wow. I had never seen a prettier woman in all my life. I’m not a fan of girls with makeup but she was an exception. I turned around to see Craig gorking with his mouth open.
“Craig!” I said under my breathe.
He straightened up and smiled gormlessly.
“You look really nice Charlie” we both said in unison.
“Thanks” She was waving to her father who had just dropped her off.
“Brave man letting his daughter alone with two handsome studs like us”
“Where are these studs?” she said in a sarcastic tone and looking behind us.
Craig’s eyes narrowed “Very funny... Are we ready?”
Chapter 2 – The Gig
We caught the bus to Newport so we could walk to the leisure centre.
The guy that was taking the tickets didn’t believe that Craig was sixteen which I really didn’t understand, he has a beard. As we walked into the large concert hall we could hear the support group warming up and the loud raw of people yelling for the main group.
“Shall I get some drinks then?” Came the shout from Craig.
“I don’t see how... you could barely get in” Charlie replied laughing.
A cold shot was sent to Charlie again as Craig disappeared into the crowd.
“You look really good Vash”
“Huh... Oh, Not really, I just through on the closest thing I could find, or rather the only thing I could find. But you look stunning”
She smiled so nice that the whole room light up “Thank you”
“How have you been doing then? Got any boyfriends?”
“Nah, I’m not really looking for a guy right now, my last boyfriend cheated on me, the old ‘it was an accident’ excuse was given.”
“Men hey?”
“Yeah, you got any girlfriends? I bet you got loads”
“Ha! No, girls don’t even look at me twice; closest thing I get to a girlfriend is the woman who drives me to college on the bus.”
Words came from the other side of me that sounded like ‘drinks’, I turned around to see Craig stood there with three large two pint cups full of larger.
“You know I hate the stuff”
“Ah well, I thought you could loosen up a bit”
“Would you like one Charlie?” Craig placed his hand out to offer a drink to Charlie, I’m no sexist but I have never seen a girl gulp down a pint of larger so fast.
“Wow, you’d think it was really nectar the way you drink it” I said.
The support band came on but no one really pays attention to them so we just stood their drinking until Evanescence came on the stage. They opened up with Going Under and then Tourniquet came on.
“Hey these are really good live aren’t they” Charlie said as she looked at me.
“Yeah, where did Craig go?”
“I don’t know. Oh I see him he’s over their”
Someone jumped into Charlie and nearly pushed her over. I caught her half on purpose and half by accident. I pulled her up and she stood their looking at me. Her bright blue eyes glimmering at me as deep as space. I just wanted to get lost in them. I moved in to kiss her, I didn’t even realise. She kissed me back.
I don’t remember much else of the Gig because all I was doing was holding Charlie by the waste and jumping with her.
“Come on then, let’s go”
The Gig had ended and Craig was hammered. I could tell because of the fact he was talking to my feet. I lifted him up and smiled at Charlie.
“Sorry about this, he’s always at my feet kissing them, I’m just that cool.” Why did I say cool?
We got half way to the bus stop when a man dressed in ragged clothes carrying a knife stopped us.
“Give me your money”
“We haven’t got any, we-“
“I SAID GIVE ME YOUR MONEY”
“Hey look man, I’ll give you my phone just take it” Charlie gripped my arm harder and Craig couldn’t even tell if it was a joke.
Before I could blink the man was on the floor mouth open and eyes closed. A hole through his chest.
The lights went dim and the street went quiet. All of the noise of the surrounding cars had faded away. The wind was the only sound to be heard.
“So this is Vash hey?” The voice sounded like someone I had heard before but I could not pin point where it was coming from.
“I imagined you would be a lot taller. Just like your father”
“Where are you, you bastard! Where are you hiding!” The violet Smokey energy had already started creeping up my arm, tearing away at my sleeve.
“I guess there’s no harm in showing myself. You’re going to die anyway.”
The mist had gotten to my shoulder now, I was trying to force it back but I couldn’t. The last time this had happened I was eight, and that wasn’t a nice day.
“Let’s see, who are these? You actually have friends? I’m surprised people go near you after knowing what your capable of”
“What the hell is he on about Vash? Should I get him” Craig starting lunging out but I held him back.
The man had stepped out of the shadows. A tall thin man dressed in a black expensive suit. A ball of lightning wavering in his hand sparking at anything it could get near.
“Go away, I don’t know which syndicate you are with but just piss off!”
“That’s no way to treat your dads old pal is it?”
A spur of memory coursed through my body. Images of my real father and a few men that he had worked with.
“I know who you are. Christophe?”
“Your sharp kid” An American accent.
“Now, Should I just get on with my little task or should I stay and chat for a bit?”
“I take it you’ve been sent by them to kill me?”
“You don’t mess around do you kid?” His voice was aggravated but still had a cold sense of sarcasm.
A bolt of lightning had screamed at me. I closed my eyes. Opened them and nothing had happened.
“CRAIG!” The sharp scream came from Charlie. I snapped my head over to where Craig had been stood. He was lead there. Lifeless.
The smoke coursed through my body and covered me in purple flames. My eyes began to turn black. A ball of energy had begun to focus at the palm of my hand that I wanted to shut off.
“YOU BASTARD”
The man’s eyes shot open.
“But you’re not supposed to be able to do this! I was told you had been stopped!”
The ball shot from my hand and began to cinder the man’s flesh like a piece of paper. He had disappeared. Nothing left.
