She smacked her coffee cup down on the desk causing it to slosh all over. She was tired of waiting for Corix. He said he’d be there by sunset, but it was completely dark outside. Then she heard a heart-wrenching creak from the front room. Storming into the entryway, she found herself staring into the shallow gray eyes of Corix.
“So you’ve got the package, Selin?” he grumbled in a very raspy voice. His fleeting eyes were scanning her room.
“I do. Why were you so late?” Selin queried. Corix clacked he talons angrily on the cupboard.
“Humans, the dull-headed fools. They shot me down on my way here. As you know, that delays people,” Corix growled indicating a deep puncture wound on his forearm. Blood oozed out slowly making red dots on Selin’s carpet.
“Corix, don’t insult my kind. Just because some humans are ages behind your race doesn’t mean all of them are.”
“It’s sad that you’re a human. You’d have so much potential.”
“Back to business. Here’s what you wanted,” Selin said, pulling a tiny item wrapped in glossy brown paper from her pocket.
Corix’s scaled hand shot out and snatched the parcel away. He ripped it open and brought the contents up toward the light. A tiny yellow gemstone was carefully placed between his claws.
“We need to talk,” Corix hissed. “Let’s go to your study.”
Selin strutted back into the study and sat behind her desk. She grabbed her coffee cup from the desk and sipped from it unhurriedly. Corix sat on the other side of the desk. He placed his large bird-like feet upon the footstool.
“You do know the power of that gemstone in your hand?” Selin questioned.
“Of course. Why would I ask for it if I didn’t know its capabilities?”
“Corix, if our theory is – Gah!!” Selin screeched. Something had just shot through the window and the coffee cup shattering both and leaving her holding a ceramic handle. Corix bursted through the window frame, extended his enormous wings, and took flight. Selin was left alone in her office. She thought she saw dozens of pairs of beady golden eyes staring at her through the darkness outside. Moments later the creatures were upon her. Corix watched as his partner was killed by the little fiends. He smiled for his plan had worked. One less human was left in the world, one less human for him to kill. One more powerful gem was in his hands.
Heh... Just something random I wrote I may or may not finish it, but my main focus is Dark Deception. Why do I keep on writing new things and never finish old things?

I don't know, but writing new stuff is more fun to me, I guess...
