As We Are (chick flick)

Friday.

I pulled out of my driveway in a mad rush. It was five thirty and I had to be at Desert Ridge to meet Angel. On the way out, I almost ran over my neighbor, Ian. He was putting out his trash and he jumped like four feet in the air.

I rolled down the window and shouted, "Hey Ian! Sorry about that." I giggled. It was the fifth time.

He smiled at me and straightened his shirt. "No problem," he grinned, "You can run me over any time you like."

I wanted to say something witty, but just at that same exact second, my phone beeped at me.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Eva, it's Angel, where the hell are you?!"

Shit I thought. "I'm on my way," I said, and waved to Ian who was shaking his head.

When I got to Desert Ridge, I parked and got out quickly. I was going to get it from Angel. When I entered the store, I saw that she had the whole troup with her; Mell, Dillon, and Steven.

"It's about time!" Angel chirped. She was wearing a pink minidress that barely covered her chest. She was also wearing her usual white sunglasses with shiny rhinestones.

Dillon smirked at me behind Angel's back, and I smiled back. Dillon's dirty blonde hair was caught in his eyes and he flung it back carelessly.

My phone rang again. Angel pouted.

"Eva," she whined, "You can't talk on your cell, you have to help me pick out my dress for the formal. We only have two hours!"

"I'll be quick." I promised.

I answered my phone. It was my mom.

"Hi, honey," she said, "I just wanted to let you know that I want you to be back at home by eleven. You have to get up for soccar, and then study for your finals!"

I groaned. "Ok, mom," I said, "I'll get a ride from the gang."

When I returned to the store, Angel was gone, probably into the dressing rooms. Mel was gone, too. Steven was texting on his blackberry, so Dillon turned to me.

"How was your week?" He asked. Dillon goes to Mountain Peak, the highschool in the rich district. I go to Roadrunner, the less expensive one. Dillon is one of the more popular guys, and also a big pothead. But what could you do?

"It was fine." I said, yawning. "I'm tired, though. I'm ready for break."

"Me, too," he agreed. "Are you up to anything special?"

Angel popped out of the dressing room followed by Mell.

"Whadd'ya think?" she squeled. We all looked. She was wearing a black cocktail dress. Strapless of course.

"Nice," Steven said. Steven is Angel's boyfriend. At first I thought he was joking when he went out with her. But I guess he's willing to be her slave.

Dillon snorted, and I covered my mouth.

Mell said, "You look hot."

Dillon rolled his eyes.

"Aren't you getting anything?" Angel asked me, as she went to the cash register. As soon as I saw who was behind the counter, I wanted to groan again.

"No I said," and glanced quickly at Freedom. Free was wearing her usual double eyeliner, ripped jeans, and black tee. She glared at Angel, and gave me the what the hell look.

"Need anything else that doesn't fit you?" Free asked, stuffing the dress in a bag.

Angel ignored her, and said to me in a loud voice, "Come on, Eva, let's dance the night away!"

I sent a sympathetic look at Freedom, then turned to follow Angel.

Friday night

Ian pressed the pause button to answer the door. His dog, Scruffy, barked at him. Ian stood up and looked out the window to see who it was. It was Eva. His heart fluttered and he quickly opened it.

"Hey," he said, trying to act casual.

"Hey!" Eva said, walking in under his arm. She took a look around and saw that he was alone. "What'ya up to?" She asked.

"Oh, nothing much," Ian replied. Scruffy tilted his head and wagged his tail at Eva, who scratched behind one of his floppy ears.

"Wanna go out?"

Ian thought he heard wrong.

"Wha--?" he stammered.

Eva gave him a funny look, as she tucked a strand of long black hair behind one ear. "To the dance," she said. "Angel and the rest of them are coming an hour later, so I said I'd meet them there. You wanna come? Unless you have a date or something..." she trailed off.

"No!" Ian replied quickly. "I'd love to go!" Then he realized how he sounded and grinned, "I'm mean sure."

Eva smiled, and Ian felt his breath catch. "Great! I'm going to get changed and..." She paused.

Ian felt himself going red. "I'll pick you up at eight," he said.

Eva turned and headed back to her house. Ian shut the door quickly and looked and Scruffy. He couldn't stop smiling.
