Hey, add whatever you want but try to stay on the plot and it's not really supposed to be funny so just make it as kick-A as you can lol

His name was Marcus Whilloby, a twelve year old adventurer to other worlds. Marcus enjoyed books emensely and was delighted with the place that he lived: A library. Marcus lived with his Aunt Gwen in the musty attic of an england library, the best place Marcus could have hoped for. Marcus's parents had died while marcus had been very young and Aunt Gwen, although no papers had said to, took ownership of the lad. She raised him to be a trust worthy gentle man and a strong helper. He would carry books here and there and arrange, sort and re-arrange what he could.
Miss Gwen was a widow and a sad one at that as her late husband had drank himself to death, determined not to let this happen to Marcus she pounded poverbs and fables into his head as though she were trying to reform a naughty school boy. Marcus had no friends other than the people he met often in the library. It was one of these that began his adventures. Dr. Charles Hawthorn was a professer of writeing and theroy at the near university and came often to sit in a near corner to smoke his pipe quietly while reading his selection.

Marcus brought him books, which is how the pair began their friendship. And soon Marcus began talking with the professor about books. Everything from his favourite literary classics to books he had too put down through boredom. Marcus was both inetlligent and well read, and as well as messages for latter life, his aunt taught him everything she possibly could about books. She was a well read, quite obviously, after spending many of her days reading. But she had never managed to instill a passion for reading into Marcus, and the enthusiasm he had for fiction he had had to rely on fiction alone to instill into him. What she had to say about books was interesting, but not enthralling or exciting. Which was why the professor was different, and why Marcus liked him so much.

..... *curses Akakios into oblivion* Someone ban his ass please.

Ahem.

--------------

"And then what happened?" Marcus said in a breathy voice. The Professor paused, allowing the moment to swell with anticipation.

"...She ran. Though she knew there was no chance of her escape, she made haste, the branches tearing at her hair, her face. The cold air burned her lungs and she could hear the crash of brambles close behind... A wily branch hooked her foot and she fell, hitting the ground hard. She could taste blood on her tongue but she staggered to her feet, blind with panic..." the Professor paused again and Marcus nearly wet himself with excitement.

"And then?! What?! What happens?!"

The Professor fingered the delicate edge of the page before bringing the pages together, closing the book. Marcus' eyes were wide with horror, his jaw slackened with surprise.

"Bu..."

"I'm sorry Marcus," the Professor said. "This story was never finished. I don't know what happens to the girl..."

"Bu... she... wh..." Marcus stuttered. His mind was reeling with thoughts of her, he could see her face contorted with fear, he could feel her pounding heart. He wanted to save her, help her... and it was lost.

"No!" he shouted, jumping to his feet. He snatched the book from the Professor, turning to the last page which ended with "blind with panic..." and indeed, the following pages were blank, vacant and devoid of word. Marcus was surprised to feel hot tears forming and even more surprised at the words that spilled forth...

"I'll finish it."

Agreed.

"My dear boy, what are you on about?" The anceint mans face was excited.
"I shall write the rest."
"Oh?" The good doctors face fell. "I thought perhaps you had something else in mind."
"Such as what?" Marcus felt the stirring blood in in his veins relax as he cocked his head.
"My dearest confidant, have you ever had thoughts of differing demensions?" The doctor leaned in to the boy's face to ask the question.
"You mean worlds not in our universe but... else where?"
"Precisly."
"I suppose I have. Why do you ask?"
"I would speak to you in private." The doctor glanced at a man whom was browsing.
"What

Marcus was confused. Though he was a relatively smart boy, the concept of different "dimensions" was beyond his normal scope of thinking. In fact, he wasn't even sure he understood what a different dimension was. The Professor's secretive attitude was even more puzzling and feeling a little apprehensive, he allowed himself to be led into the back lounge which smelled faintly of whiskey and mothballs.

"Marcus. Listen closely... I was the one who wrote this book. I am impressed by your involvement with Mariana's plight and it is only because I see in you great spirit that I tell you this. Mariana is no literary figure conjured from imaginative air, but rather form and flesh... but parallel to the life we live now. What I am about to show you..." he said, walking toward the back wall and kneeling upon the cobblestone floor, "Is nothing you'll know or ever understand. Even I marvel at its existence..." And wrapping his gnarled fingers around the rusted handle of what Marcus had always assumed to be the basement staircase, he pulled open the door to the universe.

At least, if Marcus had to describe it today, the door to the universe is the closest comparison he could make. The space beyond the door was infinite, yawning into the fabric of space and time, a vast chasm to which there can be no comparison. Marcus felt drawn toward the void but fear made his blood boil in his throat, a thready pulse that made him weak.

"Wha..." Once again at a loss for words he turned to the Professor, who's eyes gleamed with an excitement Marcus had never seen before.

"This is it Marcus, the gateway to Mariana. I wish I could return, indeed I envy your youth. It is a difficult journey, and I feel that only one can be made in a lifetime... I show you now because I hope it is you who are meant to find Mariana and God willing, she is still alive and that you can help her. Tell her Falbin said hello." And with that, he placed a hand between Marcus' shoulder blades and without ceremony or fanfare, shoved him into oblivion.

Marcus pressed his eyes shut, flailed his arms through a thick emptiness, and opened his mouth to scream . . .
Before even a squeak escaped past his lips he was staring at a magnificent sky of blues. Crisp ocean blues swelled gently with calm pastels.
“Where am I,” Marcus murmured to himself. He sat up slowly trying desperately to understand what he was seeing. His mouth fell open when he realized what surrounded him: trees with trunks as big as houses.

The air was crisp but mingled with the snap of ice was a pungent smell of gunpowder. Slowly he sat up, his warm breath coming in delicate puffs. Gooseflesh rose on his arms, the cold air biting through his thin t-shirt and jeans. The trees were densely collected, ominous as they arched over him, giant sentinels neither friend nor foe but ambivalent in their guardianship. His heart was still pounding and for a moment he considered that it was perhaps an entirely fantastic dream... but something deep in his gut assured him was not. Reaching out, he touched the bark of the nearest tree, the rough depressions cold and unyielding.

"What the fuck...?" Marcus did not often swear. Aunt Gwen would be horrified and Marcus felt a tingle of glee. Aunt Gwen was not here. But neither was the Professor. In fact, Marcus realized that it was very unlikely that he knew ANYONE here.... indeed, he wasn't even sure where "here" was.

Something exploded above his head, a loud boom making his ears ring. He was blown over by the unseen force and the air was suddenly thick with dirt, dust and vaporized tree. He coughed violently, feeling like he might vomit with fear. The air slowly began to clear and he squinted through the debris, hoping he would find no one there.

"W-who....?" he began but was rudely interupted.

(Come on people, give it your best shot or I'm stealing this whole idea and writing my own story! Tee hee! )

ah here we are:

He heard distant icy shouts and scramblings. Marcus stood and checked himself, then looked about to see where he was and where the energy blast had come from.
His face turned a shade of ash when he saw huge, ugly... things running at him, swords, cimitars, and clubs above thier heads but their eyes were not fixed upon Marcus which he was greatful for but rather behind him.
As any normal boy would do he dropped to his stomach and rolled onto his back, wide eyed with fright. The hairy men were dressed in furs and the light snow that now was soaking Marcus to the bone, made him wish he had the same attire.
But as he looked to the same thing the men were fixed upon destroying he drew a deep breath.
A man, on a hill and surrounded by trees, was dressed in billowing robes and holding a gnarled staff. He held a tome in the other hand. The man pointed his staff at one of the brutes running at him and a swirling orb of fire burst from the staff and laid the man low in a heap of bones and charred flesh.
The ugly men attacked the wizard without thought and robed figure dropped the book and fought in a swirling pattern, hitting the brigands multiple times here and there and taking a head off with a short knife that danced in and out of the mans sheath inside his cloak.
After the attackers had all been dispatched the man scooped the book from the ground and looked about, then ran. Marcus decided to follow. But curse the doctor time and again for pressing him into this world.

Wow. This is so cliche, and reminiscent of the Pagemaster. Fun! (Aw, c'mon, make it funny. Not laugh outright funny, but what about black or dry humor? Otherwise this is just gonna read like any other fantasy story. And I have a certain dislike for epics at the moment.)

-----

Marcus no longer thought of the doctor. If he did, he'd be too busy muttering obscenities at the man, his relatives, and all his relatives to come rather than watching where to put his foot. This forest had enough pitfalls and outstretched roots to entangle a small army. Coupled with the thin blanket of snow it made very treacherous conditions for travelers.

He tugged the neck of his cloak to ward off the cold. Twilight had fallen, and the wizard showed no signs of stopping. The man did slow his pace, and was kind enough to offer Marcus a half-cape, but kept his lips shut and his eyes distant. Marcus could only hope when nightfall dropped they would make camp. Sheer force of will stopped his stomach from grumbling. He couldn't go on like this.

Odd animal noises clamored all about him. Contrary to popular opinion, forests were a noisy place. If he listened carefully and remained observant, Marcus could spot a number of denizens. Mice scurried in the underbrush. Birds chirped overhead, their high-pitched chatter buzzing his ears. A doe and her fawn froze in their tracks upon sighting the humans, then moved on when they distinguished no threat.

The thought struck him. Here he was in the dead of winter. Why were the animals not hibernating?

He started and spun around. Something big, fat, and heavy crashed in the bushes nearby. Two eyes of ebon-black stared from the foot of an oak, and a curious muzzle sniffed the air. By the thick fur and build he placed the creature as a bear. A bear with bad paw-to-eye coordination, to have fallen off the tree and land upside-down on its head. Marcus glanced at the wizard's back. The man paid no attention.

They left the bear and suddenly, the forest cleared. A peaceful meadow spread out before them, tucked in the middle of these woods.

Marcus jerked to a stop when the wizard raised a hand. The man turned to face him, and made an unmistakable gesture for the boy to stay put, then put a finger to his lips for quiet. Marcus could only nod. What else was he supposed to do?

The wizard moved to the center of the field. He initiated a mysterious ritual, staff raised high, voice loud and authoritative in the clearing. But Marcus had other things to concern himself with.

Behind a thick patch of strawberries, predatory eyes of a tawny hue caught him like a basilisk. Marcus froze. A low, dangerous growl issued from the beast's throat. Fangs glistened with threads of saliva. He noted the pink tongue sliding across the yellow, bloodstained canines. Marcus inched his fingers along the seam of his shirt till they touched a gun-like apparatus slung on his belt.

Aunt always told him to be wary of strangers. He may be a boy, but he'd gone through enough shocks for one day to feel a certain air of recklessness penetrate the fog of fear in his head. Oh hell, what's a dead animal or two? Nothing, really. He'd already been attacked, and he recalled an old maxim from his books: once bitten, twice shy. This time--he hoped--things would be different.

Another came to mind, and a grim smile lit up his boyish features: peace through superior firepower.

The beast leapt from the bushes. Marcus whipped out the taser and fired.

But nonetheless, guaranteed or not, he felt recklessness surge through his extremities and he dove to the left, dodging the foul beast. He hit the ground hard, his chest burning as the wind left him. Momentarily paralyzed, he could still smell the beast's rotting breath, right behind him, upon his neck.

"Peace Bargin. He's hardly a morsel... and apparently out of shape," came a squeaky voice. Marcus drew in shuddering breaths and peered over his shoulder fearfully.

It surprised Marcus to realize that the voice had come from the tall robed man... or wizard... or whatever he was. He didn't quite seem the type of man to "squeak" but indeed, his voice had an undeniable squeak to it. The wizard was standing beside the hulking, drooling beast, a hand upon its shaggy shoulder. The beast heaved a monumental sigh and then smirked... Marcus shook his head. Beasts don't smirk. But this one did and then it stood up straight, wiping the drool from its fuzzy chin.

"Oh fine. He's quite a scrap... and whats that you got there minnow?" the beast said, taking a couple steps toward Marcus.

It had all come too far. Marcus jumped to his feet, swinging the gun wildly between the bear-like... thing and the wizard.

"What the hell is going on here?!" he shrieked, his voice cracking. "What the hell are YOU?!"

The beast coughed, slicked back the fur from his eyes and said, "Why I am a Whyzear."
