School of Darkness - Chapter 2.
Here it is! I hope you have fun reading it, please tell me what you think.
CATS
There was a mighty flash, and brilliant light filled Rhia's eyes. She closed them immediately, but still her eyes were burning with pain from the unbearable light.
Rhia screamed, but the scream never reached her ears. Feeling hotter and hotter, Rhia desperately tried to move her arms, her legs, anything... but to her horror, her legs seemed to have gone - she did not feel them any more.
And she didn't feel her arms either.
Then something hit her brutally in the face, and suddenly everything vanished. Rhia floated in the middle of Nothing. Then, after a few eternally long moments, everything jerked, and the Nothing ruptured to reveal soft, brown earth right in front of her.
Rhia realized that she was lying on the ground, her face full of mud. She was shaking, sweating, and her head was humming as though a thousand bees were buzzing on and on and on.
There was a loud explosion behind her, and something very heavy fell on her, driving her face even deeper into the mud.
“Ouch!” Finn’s voice grunted above her “Next time, try to land somewhere else, OK? You aren’t as soft as the ground.”
Gritting her teeth, Rhia lifted herself up and kicked Finn, who was sitting on her below the tail.
“Ouch!” Finn cried again, jumping off Rhia “What was that for?”
“You… you…” Rhia struggled for words “You-“
“Enjoyed the warp?” Finn asked brightly “Cool, ey?”
“You are an idiot.” Rhia said flatly, getting up and wiping the mud off her face.
“What did I do?!” Finn asked indignantly “Warping is the quickest way here!”
As a reply, Rhia threw up, and sat on the ground, holding her head.
“Uhm… are you allright?” Finn asked cautiously.
“Take a guess.” Rhia hissed “I am NEVER, ever warping again.”
“Oh… sorry.” Finn scratched his head “Wait a second, I’ll use magic to make it better.”
Rhia, who had witnessed Finn’s attempt to get rid of the tree, tried to protest, but too late. Finn’s eyes glowed strangely, and he murmured: “Dispel All Unnatural!”
A strange glow filled Rhia. She looked up, and breathed in deeply a couple of times.
“Hey… I do feel better! Tha-“
But before she could finish the sentence, something flashed brightly, and Rhia became filled with brilliant light.
When the light vanished moments later, so did Rhia’s clothes.
“Oh…” Finn blushed violently “Oh… sorry…”
“GIVE ME MY CLOTHES BACK!” Rhia screamed at the shame-faced devil, looking around frantically for a stone she could hide behind; the landscape was completely blank, though, except for a few trees here and there. Unfortunately, none of them was close enough.
There was a loud bang, and light once again, and Rhia felt as though something embraced her. When she looked at herself, she saw that she had cloth on again… although for some reason they were yellow and purple.
“Good enough…” The girl sighed “I suppose that’s the best I’ll ever get from you.”
“I’m just a student!” Finn said “Come on, I can make mistakes!”
“Yea.” Rhia nodded “Yea…. Yea, I guess… but…”
“But what?”
“Why in heaven did they send you to bring me here?!”
“Because he did it as punishment,” a voice nearby said coldly.
Rhia and Finn turned around startled, and saw a small, pink-skinned creature floating in mid-air before them. It had two white, luminous wings, which were beating up and down. Its face was almost human, except for the elongated pointed ears, and the green, long hair. It had a long, black tunic on, and a yellow, strange, elongated hat.
The creature was staring at Finn disdainfully, its arms and legs crossed, the eyes flashing angrily.
"No... more monsters..." Rhia groaned silently.
“Ah, hello!” Finn said, looking at the creature and apparently trying to think of something. Then he smiled.
“Rhia, this is Mama-jama-hama-kama-lama! He’s a student in the school, but very untalented. Always adored me for some reason.”
The creature’s face went red, and he hissed: “Finn! Shut up!”
“Sure, my young admirer.” Finn smiled gently.
The creature shook its head in frustration, and said, turning to Rhia: “I’m Rix, a pixie. I’ve been sent to receive you.”
“Why is that?!” Finn asked angrily “Kir knows I’m up to the job!”
“Everything has to be about you, doesn’t it?” Rix snapped “For once, it doesn’t. A cat has been sighted.”
Finn stopped what he was saying, and turned to Rix, stone-faced.
“You mean…”
“From PP-7.” Rix nodded.
Rhia looked from Finn to Rix, who both seemed very serious.
“A cat?” Rhia repeated blankly.
“Yes! From PP-7!” Finn said.
Rhia stared at him.
“Of course, she hasn’t heard about them!” Rix slapped his head “I’d better teach her.”
“There we go…” Finn groaned “Another brilliant essay by Rix, very informative and absolutely boring!”
“At least I didn’t magic Rhia’s clothes off!” Rix replied coolly, and turned to Rhia once more.
“You see Rhia, cats are very rare in the universe. In fact, there are only five planets cats live on. One is Earth, and thankfully, those cats are completely harmless. On Deidre, the cats are five meters tall, but they’re vegetarians. On another two planets, the cats are pretty much like your lions and tigers. But on PP-7…” Rix sighed, and rubbed his head, apparently trying to gather his thoughts “they lived since ten thousand years. PP-7 is hell. There is an Ice Age every few hundred years, and massive volcano explosion… as well as acid rain, gigantic thunderstorms, floods and very, very frequent earthquakes.”
“Sounds lovely.” Rhia said “But what does that have to do with cats?”
“They were brought there by some ancient alien race, and abandoned… but those cats, unlike their brethren on other planets, had very adaptable genes in them. The original cats died immediately, but managed to spawn a few children. The children managed to survive a few months, before some died, but others managed to produce their own children, and so on… The population of cats diminished very fast, but their power, agility and intelligence rose even faster. In the last hundred years, there were about two hundred cats on that planet – fierce, agile, insanely enduring and diabolically clever. Which was fine as long as they remained on their planet.”
“But they didn’t?” Rhia guessed
“Some of them did. But about twenty cats seized the opportunity to get away from there when a spaceship landed there by mistake. They got on board, slaughtered the crew, and flew off. Now they are very famous as hired assassin, most of them are pirates, but some are for sale. Gripha hires three of them an incredible rate of money per hour, I think they get paid as much as full ownership of five planets size 2 per hour… Which would be equivalent to one billion of your dollars per second.”
“Wow… nice way to make a career… Oh, and what’s Gripha?” Rhia asked, sounding profoundly confused.
“Sort of an intergalactical peace-keeping organization.” Rix wrinkled his nose “They are very fond of assassination as the solution to their problems…”
“And… a cat has been sighted here?” Rhia asked, now understanding why Finn and Rix were so upset “But if they’re so rare, what is it doing here?!”
“That’s what we were asking ourselves.” Rix said “C’mon, let’s. Once you’re in the school, you are safe.”
“I don’t think we should be afraid of cats now.” Finn said.
“Why is that?”
“Because if a cat was around, Rix sure bored it to death with his lecture, that's why!”
“SHUT UP, FINN!” Rix bellowed at the sniggering devil “You are so annoying!”
“Come on, let’s hurry up.” Finn smiled, looking at the fuming Rix and the confused Rhia “You have to be back soon, and I’m sure you wanna see the school.”
“What planet is this actually?” Rhia said, the question arising in her mind for the first time.
“It’s called SOD, or School Of Darkness. It all is the school, not only the buildings.”
He pointed to the tall shape that was standing behind them about ten kilometers away; Rhia gasped – she hadn’t noticed it before, Finn took all her attention. The building looked like a tall spire, and near it, a huge golden dome stood.
“What’s that big golden building?”
“SODA.”
“Soda?” Rhia repeated, perplexed.
“School Of Darkness Arena.” Rix smiled “That’s where the lousy students play FireMatch. I prefer studying.”
“You’re just scared of dragons.” Finn yawned “C’mon.”

Maximillian looked at the radar, which displayed the wavering of magic energies. Half an hour ago he had been woken by his secretary, who detected two bright auras warping from Earth to the School Of Darkness. Plus a weak aura; this probably was the subject that needed termination.
Maximillian dialled the Supervisor’s coordinates; the connection was immediate.
“Have you found them?” Maximillian was surprised to hear the tension in the supervisor’s voice.
“Yes. Accompanied by a two auras.” Max punched in a few keys on his laptop, and the information came on screen.
“Magic type OOBx, devil, and magic type BBCxO1, pixie. And-“ Max broke off, and started typing furiously “The third one isn’t human! It’s weak, but it’s something else…” Max stared at his screen in fascination “I’ve never seen that kind of magic aura before!”
“It’s the subject.” The supervisor’s voice was cold “Terminate all three auras.”
“But-“ Max looked up from his computer “You probably don’t know; the other two are enrolled SOD students.”
“I said terminate!” the fury of the supervisor overwhelmed Max.
“But-“
“YOU DO WHAT I SAY, MAXIMILLIAN! You do want to see you brother again, don’t you?”
Slowly, Max nodded, then realized that the supervisor couldn’t see him; the video connection was too unstable.
“Yes sir.” He said quietly.
“Good.” The connection was gone.
Sighing, Maximillian turned off his computer and stood up. He hated what he was about to do; but there was no other choice.
“Sam! Wilkins! Rue!” The three cats phased out of nowhere, looking at Max expectedly.
“We have to terminate all three subjects… Supervisor’s orders.”
“But-“
“They are all… dangerous and out of control.” Max said, looking away “Swarm out. Alpha tactics. I want them dead within the hour.”
“YES SIR!” Thee voices echoed in unison, and the cats were gone; barely visible, the surged towards Rhia, Finn and Rix as shadows, gaining fast.
Max sighed again, folded his tail and closed his eyes. He needed a break.
Soon he was sleeping, and purring softly as he saw a dream.
