School Of Darkness (Prologue)

Here is the prologue for the story I'm working on currently... Plz read.

Prologue

''The magic of blue is considered higher than any other... Please explain.''
''What's there to explain?'' Finn snorted ''Those blue magic users are just snobs! Can't even produce a normal Frok!''
The whole class snorted a little, while the teacher frowned.
''Finn, sit down and shut up. Does anyone else have an answer?'' He looked around the classroom. The devils weren't paying any attention at all, of course, and most of the humans didn't seem to give a damn, either. Only two or three unicorns and a handful of pixies were listening.
''Does anyone else know the answer?'' he repeated.
''The magic of blue is considered nobler than the others because the creatures using blue magic do not only use the spells specific to blue, but also absorb other styles, making blue magic the most famous and wide-used,'' a wide-eyed pixie replied with a dull learned-by-heart tone.
''Well done, Rix, sit down.'' The teacher nodded satisfied, and the pixie sat onto its mat with a very superior look on its face.
''Still, they can't produce a Frok, can they?'' Finn asked, and again the whole class snorted.
''Finn, detention!'' the teacher groaned ''Get out of here, NOW!''
''Allright, allright, don't get a cow!'' Finn sniggered as he went out the door ''Still, you can't produce a Frok either, right?''
''GET OUT OF HERE, FINN!'' the teacher bellowed, blushing violently while the whole class burst out laughing.
''Stupid little thing,'' the teacher muttered darkly ''Allright, quiet down!''
The class slowly stopped laughing, and were now gazing bored around the room, counting flies and looking at the dragons practising FireMatch outside the window.
''Why did I ever accept this job?'' the teacher asked himself plaintively ''Even teaching trolls would have been better than magic classes...''
''Please, Sir, go on!'' Rix the pixie said ''What about the blue magic?''
''Well, as all of you know, magic is triggered by strong emotions, and if the person is powerful enough to handle it and not to go insane, it will become able to use a certain type of magic - white, dark, blue, green, purple, indigo... there are many types, and even more illegal ones. Anyway, all we seem to get nowadays are blue mages... The other magic types are becoming very, very rare, and indigo magic seems to have disappeared completely.''
''Please, sir, doesn't Mira use indigo magic?'' Rix interrupted.
''Well, yes.'' The teacher conceded ''But she's the only one in the school at the moment. Well, not counting Freina, of course, but then, she founded the school.''
''Still, even she can't produce a Frok, ey?'' a voice outside the door burst out, apparently unable to keep quiet.
''FINN!'' the teacher roared, running outside the door, and catching the little devil before he could run away ''Headteacher, Finn. Now!''
''But-''
''This is an order, Finn!'' the teacher said, his face very red ''Go, now!''
Finn sighed, and slowly dragged himself along the corridor towards the headteacher's office on the other end.
''Poor guy,'' a devil sitting near the window muttered ''Gets into trouble every second day, doesn't he?''
''Some devils are just unable to keep their mouth shut, I guess,'' his neighbour replied ''But Finn is a little extreme... Not one week has passed since he's been accepted to the school that he hasn't gotten into trouble.''
''It's his fault,'' Rix sniffed ''He is a very annoying devil that disrupts the atmosphere of learning we all try to create here.''
''Ah, shut up,'' the devil yawned ''At least he's fun to have around… You'd bore us all to death.''
Rix snorted annoyed.

* * *

There was a loud knock on the pulsing yellow door.
''Come in,'' Kir said, looking up from his notes. The door opened, and a small, black devil with two golden horns, and big blue eyes entered.
''Finn.'' Kir said, sighing deeply ''What have you done this time?''
''Why do you automatically think I've done something?'' the devil said with aplomb ''Perhaps I have received a credit for attentive learning, and now am here to get my medal?''
''Fat chance,'' Kir snorted ''The only person even remotely interested in learning in your class is Rix; the others seem to rather play FireMatch… Or Frying Pan Soccer.''
''Well, it is an elective, sir!'' Finn reminded him.
''Yea, whoever had that idea must have been going through a crisis.'' Kir sighed ''So, what is it?''
''What is what?''
''Finn, don't waste my time. Why were you sent to me?''
''Teacher Lelldar seemed to think that I was rude... where does he get his ideas?''
''What did you say?'' Kir asked
''Nothing special...''
''Finn, spit it out!'' Kir sighed irritably ''I've got many things to do.''
''Well, the teacher was boring us to death, so I made the whole thing interesting, and made people pay attention! Teacher Lelldar should be grateful, really, and besides, it is me who-''
''FINN!'' Kir bellowed ''Either you tell me, or you get detention for a month!''
''I kept asking the teacher if he could produce a Frok.'' Finn said sulkily ''No big thing, I think!''
''That was rude, Finn." Kir sighed ''Allright, what do you deserve? A week's detention?''
Then suddenly, the door burst open, and a unicorn galloped in.
''Sir, Kir!'' it said breathlessly ''Found a new magic gifted child, dimension X23, planet Earth, race human!''
“Cool!” Finn looked “Boy, girl, plant, or something in-between?”
“Girl.” The unicorn said absent-minded, still looking at Kir.
“Is she cute?”
''Shut up.'' Kir said, his eyes glinting ''Finn, I've got the perfect thing for ya. You go get that gifted kid, bring it here, and I forgive you, and even give you some recognition. If you do it right.''
''I'm not an idiot!'' the devil said indignantly ''I'll be fine, I'm the one of the few who use dark magic!''
''Yea, I know,'' Kir waved his hand ''Get going already... We don't want Gripha getting the human, now do we?''
''No way!'' Finn said, appalled at the very idea of it ''I'm on my way.''
With these words he stormed out the office, but missed the door and accidentally burned a hole in the wall without even noticing.
''I told him to bring his magic under control,'' the unicorn remarked ''But he seems to be far more interested in fooling around in class.''
''Hey, he's a devil,'' Kir sighed, fixing the door at the wave of his hand ''And to be honest, he's a helluva lot more fun than that know-it-all Rix.”

(I know there is no description. It will be inserted once Finn comes back to the school. Most things will be explained then.)

Hmm. It's interesting, albeit a little generic. All the characters seem rpetty well-rounded and orginal, but the plot just seems to be lacking a little flair from what I've seen. It rambles a bit about the blue and indigo magic an whatnot, although from what I gather it might be important in the future.

I don't like the title at all, but that's just me. It seems a little cliche; I think, with the talent you have, you can think of something a bit better.

Also...

Quote:
''Allright, allright, don't get a cow!''
I believe the expression is "Dont have a cow."

One last thing, for future reference: I'm kind of a grammar Nazi, but when you break during a character's dialogue or monologue, you usually put a comma or period in, like so:

Quote:
“Artyn...” Strafe sneered, holding the torch to his face. “so nice if you to join us.”

Ok, I'll change that, thx.

> I know that School Of Darkness is a generic title... it's just a working title.

> That thing about blue or other magic stuf... it's moderately important, but it's basic purpose is to give it the atmosphere of a classroom. Maybe it's not very well done...
