Fairytale - chapter 3

not all of chapter 3.... just part of it, I don't have much time to write and this is coming right off the top of my head.

Chapter 3 - Fate

*~*~*~*

The first one to wake was Elai.

But she doesn't count, because she left to find breakfast.

The SECOND one to wake was Viana. It was a few hours or so after dawn, and the white room was delicately enhanced by the sweet morning light. Viana, in her bright red pajamas, stood out against the pale colors of Moira's fantasy. She yawned.

Coffee.

She got out of bed and sleepily padded to her suitcase. She looked up to make sure Moira was still sound asleep, and then opened it.

You'd be surprised how much could fit into one suitcase.

She wondered what she should wear. Let's see, she had red shirts, black shirts, and one red-and-black shirt.

Decisions, Decisions.

Well, she had worn red yesterday. But since she only had black pants, an all-black ensemble would come off as kind of scary in the eyes of Sean's parents.

Then she remembered that she wanted them to be scared, and to throw her out.

Black, then.

She picked one at random, tugging it out from under a stack of music. Beethoven piano music, arranged for electric guitar. It wasn't the most gothic of her black shirts, but it wasn't the plainest, either. It had long sleeves, but the sleeves and the top of the shirt were mesh. Right under the mesh part, between her boobs, there was a white crescent moon.

Perfect.

Okay, more ~.^

*~*~*~*

Next - hair. Godawfully long, knotty, wavy brown hair. Viana sighed and bundled it up in a bun at the base of her neck. One of these days she's get it cut, it was getting too much to handle. She tucked her red streaks behind her ears, where they wouldn't be in the way. Viana rummaged around in the suitcase, humming a Blind Guardian tune, and finally came up with a jewelry box - which was, besides being obscenely large, antique-looking but incredibly intact. The antique dealers would have killed for something like this. She grinned.

Well, it wasn't really her style but it looked scary. A shiny skull and crossbone charm on a silver chain. Viana looked at herself in Moira's mirror and shook her head - no. Sean would wonder what was wrong... and she really didn't want him to wonder.

She didn't really want him to care, actually.

Did she?

Oh, it had been so long! Almost a year since that month they had spent in New York, him a college freshman tourist, her a lone wolf who knew the city like the back of her hand... since it was built, in fact...

She shook her head. You were only coming here for a place out of the rain, NOT because it's Sean's house....... She changed the skull and crossbone for an elegant silver rendition of a three-pronged claw grasping a red marble. It was ubitiquous, she knew, but it was pretty and eye-catching. And scary. But not too scary.

Eventually Moira woke up and dressed. Viana noted with some amusement that Moira's wardrobe was the opposite of her own - Moira's clothes were all in white or green, though most of her pants were khaki. The little girl chose a khaki skort and a cute white shirt, mostly solid but with sheer parts that echoed Viana's current style - however the sleeves of Moira's shirt were short and puffy.

Viana wondered if the matching outfits were coincidental or deliberate.

Probably both - deliberately coincidental. Viana glowered to the sky - someone up there's out to get me.....

"Hey Moira."

"Hey what."

"Ummm..." Viana fingered her claw necklace nervusly. "You got anything to do for the next couple of weeks?" It would probably take longer, but 'couple weeks' sounded better than 'a couple months'.

Moira shrugged. "No, not really."

Moira shrugged. "No, not really. Why?"

"Well... would anyone miss you if you were gone?"

Moira thought about it. If her parents NOTICED she was gone... well, that was a slim chance in itself, and an even slimmer one was that they would care. Sean, on the other hand... "Sean might. He'd notice I was gone, at least."

Viana sighed. "I'll talk to him, then. So... Elai and I were talking last night - "

"You can hear her?" Moira's eyes lit up, a hopeful smile stealing over her face.

Viana smiled and nodded. "The thing about hearing talking cats is you have to believe in them, and I most certainly do."

Moira's smile widened. This summer was starting to look a little better. "When do we leave?"

"I haven't even told you where we're going!" Viana chuckled.

"I don't care, let's go!"

"Hold your horses, kid. As I was saying, Elai decided it would be best if you and her accompanied me to Romania. We'll talk later about why - it's all very complicated. For now, go on down to breakfast, and I'll pack for you. Go on, tell them I'll be right there."

Moira scampered off. Viana waited until the door closed behind her, then cracked her knuckles. Packing time.

First thing was to empty the backpack. Viana put the backpack and one of her suitcases on the bed, opening them both. She upended the backpack above the suitcase, letting the contents fall. A bystander would have been surprised at some of the things that fell out - a whole ton of books, a computer, a few bottles of "wine", at least three passports... Viana shook the bag to make sure everything was out, and a rolled-up pair of black socks come tumbling down. She shook it again, but there was nothing. Frowning, she reached her whole arm and shoulder into the bag to get the book stuck on the very bottom - Two Kinds of Knowledge by Cora Windover. That went on top of the socks, and the suitcase was closed.

Now to fill the backpack.

In went most of the clothes, the summery clothes at least. Moira's schoolbag contained only a few books - the whole bag went into the backpack. Several personal things went in as well, Viana sensing what the little girl would appreciate. Nothing too important - who knows what could happen to the bag.

Haven’t read chapter 1 or 2, but I like what I’ve read of this one. Things are getting more and more mysterious and interesting. You’ve got a nice way with words, saying quite a lot without saying much. I also like the idea of the suitcase; it reminds me of the luggage from Discworld…without the legs.

hey, I love Discworld! Terry Pratchett's the best..... but actually if you've ever read the series by Tanya Huff, The Keeper's Chronicles... their idea of suitcases is more what I was going for. Or Mary Poppins's bag, something like that.

I haven't read your first two chapters of Fairytale, but I must say, I like what I have read and will try to find the first two chapters on the other boards.

I love your story. You really meld it all together and it's really becoming mysterious as to why Viana is actually there. Keep on writing cause I am hooked and want to know what happens next. Please.
