Anastasia stared down at her stepsister, Julie. Her head was on Anna’s lap. She was motionless staring at the seat in front of them; she was done crying and now seemed in either shock or denial.
Anastasia just lost her dad while Julie who was only four lost her mother. They had just come from the funeral.
The weather seemed to understand what they were going through and was also mourning their loss.
They were on the train ride, heading to her aunts, whom Anna only met a couple of times.
Anna felt numb, life seemed going on without her, while she was an outsider watching, waiting for the inevitable. She knew the next couple of days were going to be hard on them, including her aunt.
They were going to live in a new neighborhood, go to a new school and live with a complete stranger. Their aunt Kathy was young, she about twenty-six years old with no children of her own.
Anna stared out the window, she wanted to leave home but she never imagined it would happen this way. Aunt Kathy lived in a small town, so small she couldn’t find it on the map. Anna had visited once when her mother was still alive, Aunt Katy looked a lot like her mother, and they were close before she died. Her mom always said that she had a very similar personality as her sister.
Julie had fallen asleep, it was harder on her, and she didn’t understand what was happening, except her mommy and daddy was never coming home. Julie hadn’t left her side yet, earlier she had to carry her for hours while she cried on her shoulder. Anna was trying to put a strong face for her, but it was getting hard to keep the tears in. she looked back at the window, the meadows had turned into a blur and the sun was still shining brightly. Anna closed her eyes and let the darkness consume her.
Anna found herself sitting at a small round table across a young woman who had long curly black hair. The woman looked at her curiously.ššš
“Give me your hands” The woman said
“Why” Anna asked not trusting her.
“Don’t forget you are the one who searched for me, not the other way around, now your hand Annabel”
Anna gave her hands to the woman but was still hesitant.
The woman grabbed both of her hands and closed her eyes.
“I see a man, who appears just like you”
“What do you mean just like me?” She asked
The woman ignored her question
“Your instincts will tell you to not trust him, and his actions will not work in his favor but he is trustworthy. When you start trusting him, you will guide each other to your destiny.”
“Which is?”
The woman immediately let go of her hands and opened her eyes.
She gave a small smile
“Now I can’t tell you that, but I can tell you to remember that your destiny can change but you will have a destiny”
“When will I fulfill my destiny?”
“Soon”
“One more thing, give me your hands”
A man’s face flashed in her mind and disappeared.
ššš
“Honey” she heard someone say, she tried opening her eyes but was too tired.
“Sweetheart”
Anna slowly opened her eyes to see an old women couple inches away from her face.
“Is this your stop” asked the woman
Anna immediately looked out the window.
Route 15
A sign said
“Thank you, this is my stop” she replied
“I didn’t want you to wake up and realize you missed it.” The old woman said
She turned around and left, Anna slowly raised Julies head off her lap and stood up. She grabbed their bags and carried her sister. She carried Julie outside and looked around for Aunt Katy.
She checked her watch.
7:15
She had slept for three hours without any nightmares.
“Anna, Anna”
Anna turned around to see her aunt waving her arms from side to side. Half of her wished she didn’t know the woman who was waving her arms like a maniac, even more when people started looking. She hurriedly walked over to her; Aunt Katy hugged her and Julie; who she was still carrying.
“Let’s get you guys into the car before you catch a cold”
Anna walked right next to her aunt until they reached her car. Aunt Katy was clearly rich, she had a black Maserati.
Very classy. Very expensive.
“Do you want to drive” Aunt Katy asked her when she saw her check out her car.
Aunt Katy gave her the keys and took Julie before she could answer.
Anne went around the car and got in the front seat, while Aunt Katy put Julie in the backseat. Anna got the car ready and waited for her aunt to come, her aunt sat in the passenger seat. She drove the car out of the parking lot and drove to the freeway and that was when Aunt Katy started chatting.
“The school said you can start going to school tomorrow if you feel like it”
She pushed on the gas a little more; the speed meter read sixty-five.
“Hmm”
“Your sister can go to daycare, and I can pick her up”
“That’s fine, I can do it”
Anna pressed on it more, until it reached seventy-five. She felt like going fast, she pressed on it harder until it reached ninety.
