What are they on?
I have been to a few concerts in the last couple of weeks and I have noticed time and again people within a few rows of the front (Yes I get down in there and mosh) having conversations. They even make futile attempts to carry on when the music starts and look slightly resentful of the interruption. Back in the day when we all smoked pot you got into the music to the exclusion of everything else, what are these new drugs they are taking? And why do they bother?

Olly, I have no idea why people do this. There is venue here in Atlanta, an amphitheater, where notables who don't fill arenas, but are still very popular -- James Taylor, for example -- perform to packed houses. If you wanted to spend the money, you could buy a table in front of the stage and bring wine, food ect.
This had long been a tradition here, until recently. People wouldn't shut the f___ up. A couple of notable performers -- their names escape me -- walked off stage until people shut their pie holes.
Word got around, and most of the bigger names will not play there if tables are out. They insist the tables be replaced with regular seating. So a few rude asses ruined it for everyone. I sat at a table a while back (tickets given to me by an ad agency) for a Jethro Tull concert. It was a blast. But no more.
(Why is this a debate?)

I think they're just idiots. Speed is the only drug that encourages talking. Ecstasy is more like pot and mushrooms were you just zone out and enjoy. Maybe too much speed and beer?

If they wanted to talk, what the hell did they buy tickets to a rock show for?
"I want to have a quiet conversation with ya, Jeff."
"No bother, hey! There's a Metallica concert on tonight. We'll go there!"

You forgot all about Coke Malone, and I don't know what ecstasy you've been taking, but it's nothing like pot. It's not even a depressant for a start, which pot is.
It's not all about the music today. Most of it's shit anyway and not worth giving your full attention to.

I just meant ecstasy is like pot in that you get into the music and zone out. And the stuff with heroin in it instead of speed definitely depresses the CNS. We have very little pure MDMA around over here.
And I was kind of grouping coke in with speed, although I know they're quite different.

What you find is the people who like to hurt people, have a good time talking and messing about and just generally pissing around go to concerts and gigs, whilst the people who're really into music stay at home on their computer, singing along to their most admired, too scared to step close to a venue due to the idea that they'll get knifed.
Or is that just Manchester town centre?

It's like with people who talk during movies. They should all be shot!

That's a bit extreme, Mi! You're advocating gun violence now?

I know I know. It was just everyone thought I was twelve because I made a joke on an other thread. Ah well. My brother always talks during movies and sometimes I wished I had a gun.

Who can talk during a concert? If the band's quiet enough to talk over, they aren't trying very hard. Many, many years ago I was in the front row of a Uriah Heep gig. I blew an eardrum. Very painful. Still buzzes now if the music's too loud.

My uncle blew an eardrum at an AC/DC concert when I was little. He was really proud of it.

I'm not. It's caused problems at every gig I've been to since.
