Do you believe in ghosts?

It's a question I have a special interest in. Perhaps I should elaborate.

We were staying in a strange house in the Babbacoombe district of Torquay, we had been there for ten difficult days, and had moved into a bedroom on the ground floor because we were terrified, but determined to find out more.

At 3am, I was sitting up in bed because the time was important. My partner was in the adjoining bed with her head under the covers. Our dogs were cowering at the side of the bed.

When the heavy door slowly opened, I had a choice of the base ball bat, or the brandy, I chose the brandy.

The door opened and closed, several heart-stopping times. Afterwards, I made my way to the kitchen to make coffee for my partner.

When I returned to the bedroom, she was hysterical.

“I've seen him again. He walked straight through you. He was going in the direction of the kitchen.”

Do you believe in ghosts?

What did you do after that? Get a hotel?

I'm not sure. Logically, no. I don't believe in heaven, or hell, or God. So there should be no reason for me to believe in ghosts.

However I've "seen" strange things that could be considered ghosts, things were seen by other people at different times with startlingly close descriptions. I put the word in quotations because it was more of a feeling of them, but feeling it so strongly that it seems I saw it with my eyes. Mostly it was scary things like red eyes in the fireplace at my parents' house, or I'd wake up inexplicably in the middle of the night and feel like there was something in the room with me. I've never had an experience like yours, Harry, and I've never felt anything that strongly before or after living there.

Come to think about it, just about the time I moved out of my parents' house, my "seeing things" stopped.

Yawn. That's a boring story of bull shit.

There's no such things as ghosts. Amazing an adult would actually raise this question. I'm not questioning things beyond our understanding, but this isn't a viable one.

Malone, you sound like Sam when you talk like that.

Who was that guy who said something in the sensitivity thread about how when people have a core belief challenged they get all defensive?

*points finger*

I’ve never seen a ghost, and probably never will. My soul, or whatever you choose to call it, is not on that channel. But I do believe some people have.

Mate, you know how to write. And you’re an animal lover. That’s two stars. Just don’t fuck up over ghosts. Two Sams is bad for my blood pressure.

Edit: Maybe I’ve never seen one, but I’d sure like to know who took that slice of bread and peanut butter while my back was turned.

(No, Foxee, it wasn’t the dog)

I don't believe in ghosts. I do believe some people believe they've seen them. I knew a spiritualist who claimed he saw spirits all the time. I believe he beleives it. I don't believe in God either and I used to wonder how intelligent people could believe in God. Sometimes I have dreams that seem so real and I think if the mind can create something out of nothing like that when asleep, it is possible when you're awake- if you're nuts or on drugs. Fear and imagination are great nutrition for spectres.

Could these ghosts be beings from another dimension, temporarily fading into our universe at a weak point in theirs?

Could these ghosts be the energy or "shadows" of people who have died?

I never believed in ghosts until I visited this closed-down mental hospital in our area called Leybourne Grange. It was a freaky place, all we heard were doors closing and opening with no one there etc., which is arguable that we were being followed by another group of people. The other freaky thing about this place is that all the things they used are still there, like everyone that worked there dropped there things and left in a hurry. There were documents of patients, even film reels of unusual patients (one of which I watched when I took. Quite confusing, but the gist of it is: crazy guy.

Apparently (possibly just a rumor) 4 kids went in the boarded-up main house (they destroyed a boarded-up window). One was impaled on a spike, one was repeatedly beaten over the head, one's heart just stopped, and the one survivor (who himself had bruises all over him) said they were being thrown across the room like there were tripwires, but they were completely alone. He was taken to a mental institution.
When later investigated, apparently there were no tripwires, and nothing hat could have impaled that guy. It was just an empty room.

Personally, I think that last story is bullshit, but I always consider if it's true or not.

One thing is for sure: Leybourne Grane is a freaky as hell place.

I do believe ion ghosts, but perhaps that is because I have an over-the-top imagination.

Nick
