Dream of Californication

Californication, the new show starring David Duchovny, hit our shores about 3 weeks ago. Strangely I find it addictive whether it is because I like the story of a struggling writer (something we can all relate to) or the numerous scenes of naked women and rampant sex (again can relate). My question is this to anybody who has seen this:

Is the show an intelligent insight into the mind of a gifted writer struggling to deal with commercialism, fear of growing estrangement from his daughter's love, writer's block, middle age and the pain of intense self loathing, soothed only by continuous bedding of many women, an insight which in a way speaks to all our fears and loathings?

OR

An opportunity sought by the Executive Producer, a near 50 year old Duchovny to romp about with as many naked women as possible, explete a multitude of rude words and utter the odd witticism and observation to appear deep in an effort to revive his comatose career?

Your thoughts please=D>

I have not seen the show but I would give you good odds on the second being closer to the truth.

I haven't seen it either but maybe it's a little bit of both? Duchovyny gives an intelligent insight into the mind of a gifted writer struggling to deal with commercialism, fear of growing estrangement from his daughter's love, writer's block, middle age and the pain of intense self loathing while hanging out with hot, naked women, swearing and reviving his career.
