Question Has anyone here read 'The Secret' yet??

*Things that make ya go hmmmn*

    Its all over the news.

Ive read it and honestly dont know if Im a natural pessimist but people are claiming that the 'believe and receive' approach is fullproof. A "law" of the universe.

I find it hard to believe that a single mother in a third world country trying to feed 6 hungry children could simply close her eyes and 'place an order with the universe' and when she opened them a fridge full of food would be there.

I do agree with certain points, that 'thoughts=feelings=action' and that 'like attracts like'.

Give me a low-down on the idea of the book.
Much of the urge to ban is driven, just like Puritanism, by the fear that some people, somewhere, may be enjoying themselves; the rest by the terror of politicians and bureaucrats who fear that if they don’t do something, anything, we might begin to wonder why we pay them.

It basically says that if you put out only positive thoughts on the things you want you will get them. The idea isnt new. It just gets repackaged every 5 years or so.

Well that's just silly. Sure, the likelyhood does increase, but it won't happen everytime. It should be stated in a more realistic manner.

I saw the movie, and turned it off after about 10 minutes. Its ridiculous. People in this book/movie obviously don’t live in poverty, been raped, paralyzed etc..
You can’t tell me it’s my fault if I trip over because I was putting out negative energy. Its outrageous.

I think it packages an attitude thing as a mystical power thing. When you have a positive attitude it's not that you attract more positive things, it's that you notice more positive things. Same goes for a negative attitude. When you think negative thoughts you're not attracting bad things to you, you're just stuck in a rut. I think it's a perfectlly legitimate attitude whatever; the "Law of Attraction" is a good fable but not a literal story.

Someone gave a speech about it at my university. I thought it was a bullshit book with stolen ideas from Eastern religions. Nothing fucking new if you ask me.

I have a negative attitude. I consider myself evil. I keep getting stronger along the way. I might not live the best life, but my heart rate is good, and I have a sinister contempt to destroy the world. And as long as I can have hate, health, and happiness, I think I'm doing just fine.

I have more things than most people who act happy and become communistic members of cult societies. Those are the ones who end up having things in the end, because people like supporting members of their cults.

    Well,
I recently discovered that the writer is a Woman who is in the entertainment "buiss" so that kinda discredited her further in my eyes.

A friend of mine actually had to force me to watch it. I turned it off about seven minutes into it. I don't think I'm exactly a pessemist, but I am a realist. And it makes no sense to me that if I close my eyes and wish really hard for the Iraqi war to end that it'll happen. It comes accross clearly that no one in this "documentary" has ever witnessed any real horror or been/ is in some sort of a desperate situation.

From a philosophical standpoint it's interesting, but its not without flaws. The fact that they're making a mountain of money on peoples' desire to eraticate their struggles discredits it to me. These things are a fact of life. Noone will ever get through life without them. Heck, some of the best writing comes from hardship.

what your saying is the principles of chaos magic. the thing is you have to concentrate on a awful lot of positives and take into account the karma that comes with you getting what you want. for example. the mother in africa wouldnt be able to get a fridge full of food because it would have major repercussions on the people around her that she loves. she could with positive thought get a fridge full of food but that in reality would take up all the food in that village. what she should do insted in focus on what is realistically obatainable without anyone else suffering and then she will get it.

it does work. ive been practising chaos magic for years. it works on the premise that if you only ask for what you need and you dont take from others within that then you will get it. it does work and i have proven it to many people before.
