Fur and/or Vegetarianism
I want to know this:
Are you vegetarian, and if so, to what extent and why?
Do you buy and/or wear leather? Fur?
Do you hunt? If so, why? Do you use up the animal completely, or do you hunt only for sport?
Let the games begin.

I agree- what is the debate?
However, I am a vegetarian. I do not eat meat. I try to avoid leather and fur. I do not hunt, as I find it barbaric.

I'm not and never could be vegetarian. I had too strong of cravings when I tried. Though I admire those who can do it.
What I don't get is the so-called vegetarians who still eat chicken and fish...
I HATE fur. Leather is something that I don't think much this way or that, but I absolutely and completely hate things made out of the skin of animals. Where I used to work, I avoided handling any of that stuff as much as I could. Maybe this seems a bit backwards given I'm not a vegetarian, but I can't stand looking at fur coats or fur-lined coats, etc.
(Here comes the debate: Are people just supposed to throw away useful fur and just keep the meat?)
Personally, I think people can hunt if they use what they hunt instead of just killing for fun. Go for it. (Though I could never kill an animal except under circumstances I hope never to experience.) I know that the food pantry back in Wisi helped feed a lot of families with the meat donated from deer hunting season.
But if you hunt just to kill, rent a video game. Deer Hunter for Playstation and PC. At least that way you get all the cool equipment. I can even get you a code so the deer you hunt look like Godzilla.

I was a vegetarian for about two or three years a couple years back, for health reasons. I felt great for the first year or so but then I started to really lack energy due to my lack of protein.
I have a leather wallet, and eventually I want to get a leather jacket, but I hate the smell of leather and fur, which has deterred me mostly from leather.
I've never gone hunting, but I'd like to try it sometime, if only to understand what it feels like to stalk, shoot, and kill prey. It's not the sort of thing I'd get a kick out of but I've never done it before and it must be a unique feeling. Not to mention I wouldn't mind the extra game, although I have no idea how to gut an animal (nor do I want to).

I agree with silverwriter. I do not condemn people who hunt for meat, only those who hunt for "fun".

I love medium rare steak, carne asada burritos & tacos, chicken, bacon, and most meats I've tried. I love the smell of leather, have a leather jacket, a couple pairs of boots, a leather belt and wallet... I would hunt if it were necessary, but it's not, and I have no desire to kill an animal when I can buy meat at the store. Being a vegetarian just isn't as healthy as eating meat though, and since i love the taste of meat, I will probably never try vegetarianism.

I used to fox and rabbit hunt. Haven't for years - lack of opportunity.
If I could afford to buy a leather jacket, I probably would.
A nice, big, juicy steak - hard to beat when it's cooked right.

Killing animals strictly for fur is bullshit. If you're a hunter and you decide to keep a pelt, then that's fine. If you're a trapper who skins the animal and leaves the rest to rot, it's not fine.
Vegetarianism is alright by me. Veganism is too extreme, though. I couldn't survive without cheese and eggs (and I'm sure milk is a big ingredient in a lot of stuff I like as well). But as it is, I'm no vegetarian. Just not a big meat eater.
By the way: gigi and ms. vodka, you are both wrong.

mmmmmmmmm... I love vegetarians - they taste GREAT!!!
More seriously, if you kill it, you use it. Waste is or should be a criminal act - to take a life of any kind unnecessarily is wrong - to take it for survival or even variety of diet is OK by me. Once you have your meat it seems a bit nutsy to not use the skin, whether you call it leather or fur.
Leather smells good & it breathes & is better for you than the plastic shit made from oil.
I have caught & shot my own food & cleaned/dressed it as well. Used to make pocket money killing rabbits. Nothing like fresh fish out of the water into a pan. (most people forget fish when they rant about hunting) But I, or someone I know, eats the things I have caught.

Yes, but can you put a leather bag over your head for minutes of pure fun? I think not.

If it's a drawstring-type-bag, you just need to pull the strings tight enough...

Hodge = sick puppy...
Alternatively, it depends - have you removed the animal from it first? Check here & run Circus Tent

I think a new type of sport hunting should be created in which you hunt sport hunters.
I'd love to have the head of a 230 lb. hick mounted on my wall.
That there one was on his fifth Budweiser when I bagged him...

Ya know, of all the rabbits I shot, I never ate, nor skinned one...
