    Not Tested On Animals

I know little white mouse & bunny rabbit is cute; however when there are 17 ingredients on a product I’m expected to use and I recognise exactly... well none of them actually, I'm going to be throwing white mouse and bunny at the testing lab.

    Am I alone in this?

If a product says “not tested on animals,” it means the combination of ingredients has already been established as safe by long-term use, by prior animal testing using the same ingredients or by using established and effective tests that don’t involve animals. It shouldn’t concern anyone who would rather not to buy animal-tested products -- and it’s pretty much a non-issue. But by all means, if you're worried about it, seek out products made by companies that torture and kill animals -- there is probably a list of them somewhere on the interent.

At some point products are going to be consumed by humans. I think it's more ethical to test on animals first than go right to risking a human life. That being said, I'd like to see other forms of testing exhausted first before we involve any form of life, human or otherwise.

It also depends on the product. If it's cosmetics and personal care products, we're mostly talking about skin and eye irritation -- it's not exactly a matter of life and death -- unless you're a mouse or rabbit, of course.

There may be necessary exceptions when it comes to consumables like food dyes or OTC drugs -- but I'm betting those don't involve the same kind of torturous tests they use to test cosmetics, shampoos etc.

Bottom line as far as the OP goes -- if it says "not tested on animals" -- it's reasonable to assume the product is safe.

More than reasonable. It's a roundabout way of assuring you of safety without making the kind of statement that could lead to problems when the exception occurs.

It's not the same as what Loretta told Leroy as she served dinner: 'Eat it. It won't kill you. It might make you sick but it won't kill you.'

If you don't recognize the ingredients, and it has to be tested on animals, ask yourself how bad you need it. We are constantly being given things they 'thought' were safe. People nowadays just have to take the time to learn the ingredients, or take the risk. And by nowadays, I mean where so much is made in factories with oil products, where half our medicines have dire warnings on them, including possible death for problems that probably would not have killed you to begin with.
We are in fact guinea pigs as well, ya know. Anyone for a flu shot? Not me, for damn sure.
As it happens though, I am probably alive thanks to animal testing. No thyroid. I think it only makes me more aware that souls have suffered so I might live. I am not always super vigilant, but I think it's a good way to strive to be.

I capture unsuspecting humans and test my products on them first, in my basement.

It's really easy to avoid products tested on animals. There are booklets & lists of cruelty-free products, and products to avoid.

Eluixa, pardon me for saying this, but you are certainly at the head of this class--way, way ahead. Either you have Native-American blood in you or you have spent much time around Native-Americans.

Personally, I don't take medications of any sort unless I absolutely have to. I think there are enough other ways of developing and testing products without using animals, and most particularly things like cosmetics which are totally unnecessary to life.

Possibly every major vaccine as used animal testing, so most of us are alive because of animal testing.

That's basically how they do things these days. We're yesterday's guinea pigs.

Well you either test it on animals, or make humans the guinea pigs. Making desperate people guinea pigs for lab experiments isn't my idea of a decent society.

I personally have no problem killing and eating animals, so it goes without saying that animal testing is not an issue with me. I'm also a paramedic so I understand how animal testing has benefited mankind for years. I do however have many pets and love animals, but we are omnivores.

Many other animals share identical thoughts too: when the crocodile bags the zebra crossing the river, the croc hasn't any problem. When the Cheetah surprises the gazelle, it hasn't a problem devouring it. The major difference between animals who cannot reason and those who can (us), is that the ones who cannot reason are forced to kill because, unlike us, they haven't any supermarkets where they can choose between life and death.

Merely my opinion. When I weigh the alternatives, I tend to believe people would be much better off without the slaughterhouses. With time, abolishing slaughterhouses may even help us from killing one another. But, it's only a theory. Something like the "Big Bang," one which cannot be proven.

Reading some of your responses to other posts, I wonder about your ideas of a decent society. Forcing something down the throat of another (because it pleases you) is not exactly what one would consider a decent society. That method has failed in the past, and it continues to fail in the present.
