Point taken. But unless you remembered to buy the extra D Cell batteries at the Disney Gift Shop, they go dead too quickly.
And I hate it when they stop making the "wooosh, woosh" sound.

I disagree with quite a lot of what Shatner was getting at. I've always found Star Wars more people-oriented, even Shakespearean, than Star Trek, and I think its themes are more appealing than the federation facing off against random alien threats. Don't get me wrong; I'm a big fan of both. Voyager was my favourite show for quite a few years growing up. If only one could exist though, I'd pick Star Wars. More iconic characters, more timeless themes, more fun overall.

I thought the Star Trek movie was hilariously bad. Mmmmmmm, the minority; I love it there.

I think it's awesome that, in a forum specifically geared to writers, the basis of who wins is coming down to the power consumption of the toys that make the "woosh woosh" sound and which supporting female character pushed the most teenage boys through puberty...

The original Star Wars trilogy wins in every category on paper, but Star Trek: The Next Generation is the one with a place in my heart, especially the episodes with Q in them. Firefly is better then both, but they're both better than Stargate, IMO.

They're both great, but the word "star" is the only real thing they have in common in my eyes. If it was called "Space Trek", I find it hard to believe there would be this silly (albeit quite playful) rivalry.

To me Star Wars has always been about the highest ideals of both good and evil, viewed through the lenses of the demigods that exemplified their particular shade of the spectrum.

Star Trek was always one man's vision of a future where man has elevated himself beyond many of today's social problems through the sheer power of societal will to collectively become something greater than they were individually. This state was unnatural, and it was only through flawed characters carrying each other through confrontations that threatened to return them to less evolved existence that they overcame.

The callous cunning of the Romulans and the brutality of the Klingons was matched evenly against Vulcan logic and human compassion, and the societal problems we have faced for decades have been examined through this alternate universe.

Star Wars makes me dream, and they're good dreams. Star Trek makes me reflect on who I am, and acting on those reflections brings me closer to my dreams.

It's unfortunate that your humor gene was sucked-up by that that black hole around Uranus. I think it followed quickly after your compassion and decency genes crossed the event horizon.

Oh, well. Whatever powers your warped drive...

The other difference is that Star Trek is at least arguably science fiction, whereas Star Wars is pretty much fantasy in space. If that matters to anyone (doesn't make much difference to me).

Ummm, that's a bit harsh of a reply don't you think?

Since you obviously missed the humour in my post, I'm going to assume this was a failed attempt at being funny instead of horribly insulting. But in general, you should understand telling someone their humour gene got sucked up their anus, that they lack compassion are not a decent human being only gets laughs at the William Shatner roast on Comedy Central.

They're both wacked out fantasy in space.

This is like asking whether you'd prefer your head in a toilet or eating out of a rotting garbage bin. Can't believe I liked either one growing up.

Star Wars has Han Solo. And he gets the girl. And like Caelum said, they have light sabers. A love story on many levels. The balance of light and dark. The force as spirituality, YES!
In Star Trek, they pretty much all die lonely old geeks, cause even if they meet someone, it's over almost before it begins. I actually like Star Trek, so long as it's with Captain Picard. Data rocks. There is a lot of good to be said for Star Trek, I've not seen them all, but will watch much of the time it is on. Captain Kirk is distasteful. But Spock lives on forever!

I choose Star Wars if I have to choose. But it is merely a personal preference.

    Doctor Who - hands down!
