Capulet, I have to agree with you, and before it was the cheap labor of Mexicans it was the cheap labor of the Irish, Polish, Italians etc.

    Yeah, I'm afraid so, elite.

I doubt you'd find this as much with college educated Black-Americans or those in the upper-middle-class but it's pretty prevalent among lower-class and middle-class Black-Americans.

I found this self imposed racial segregation mindset to be among most people in the U.S. military from all over the United States as well. However, to some extent New York City given its unique identity might be slightly different.

Racial attacks are more rare than simple antagonizing others or shunning but racial attacks do still happen. Today I would say its the reverse and usually it is white people being physically attacked by young black people.

Take note of this young White-American woman from New York that is traumatized or shaken from a recent beating her and her sister and her friends received in Milwaukee by a mob of black teens. They were attacked because they are white.

People who find themselves in the dire circumstance of having no food couldn't care less about arguments pertaining to their situation. Begging for food is in itself humiliating. Either you have the heart to open your wallet to make a contribution or you don't. It's a decision one has to make. If a person feels that his/her donation will be spent on drugs or alcohol, then the donor could buy food for the needy person to ensure that the money is indeed going to a worthy cause.

People with holes in their soles and hunger pains in their bellies do not want to hear long, fancy speeches. Silence and assistance are a much better remedy. Give with a smile--or shut up and keep walking.

Are the poor of the world all con artists?

On the topic of cheap labor: Both the Irish and Blacks earned higher wages than the Italians.

    1. Irish
    2. Black
    3. Italian

The order of pay scale for unskilled laborers at the beginning of the 20th century in USA. The good news is everyone rolled up their sleeves and went to work, depending on ONLY themselves.

A very succinct argument against welfare, medicaid, and social security. Charity should indeed be up to the individual.

(Not my quote, but one I believe true)

Have you ever lived in a homeless shelter? Lined up waiting for soup and bread? Known a person who committed suicide because he couldn't feed his family?

Words, my friend, are much different from feelings and actions. The general in the back room with a pointer standing in front of map is not the general leading his troops into battle. Quite a difference.

Trust me on this one: it isn't pleasant waiting, each evening, for a bus that will carry one to a homeless shelter where one rolls out a mat to sleep upon with an auditorum filled with strangers. The upside to the story is that there's a roof above the head and food to ease the hunger. That said, the situation is still a thousand times better than the situation of the poor in Third World countries who beg or scrape for anything to put into their mouths.

In some respect, people are similar to cats. You open a can each day to feed a cat and it loses its natural desire to hunt for food. Thus, it now hunts only for pleasure. You give people welfare checks and other goodies to keep them from rioting, and these people lose their desire to do for themselves.

The entire system of the wealthy providing for the poor is flawed and needs to be adjusted. But, when a person is hungry--really hungry--you don't have time to question faulty systems: you have to give immediately.
