Could human beings exist in a world without both politics and religion? What kind of world would it be like? Peaceful? Violent?

One thing is for certain, charity work would drop waaaaaaay off. The only way charity would work was:
A) Charity work would be 50 to 60 percent of the sentences doled out by the criminal justice program
and
B) The state would have to subsidize charity by placing state workers in every charity operation to make sure people assigned to it would show up.
They call me Spooky, Spooky Mulder. A joke to my peers and an annoyance to my superiors. Whose sister was abducated by aliens when he was a kid, and now runs around with a badge and gun yelling to anyone who is listening that the fix is in and when it hits, it'll be the crapstorm of all time.

You may as well ask if the world would be a better place with unicorns bringing us tasty treats on their horns.
Society can't exist without politics. Religion? Maybe. But I firmly believe the saying that if God didn't exist man would make him up.

Never mind the politics and religion. The world would be a better place if Christopher Columbus's parents had practised birth control.
What about the king and the queen of Spain (might as well toss in the royalty of England and France too)? And the millions of wannabe kings and queens just like them scattered around our globe today? I think you're wrong on this one, Ox. I think the world would be a better place had the dinosaurs roamed another 500 million years or had those damn aliens never tampered with the gorillas.
Hey if cave men survived without religion and politics, don't you suppose we could do a better job? At least our hairy ancestors were smart enough to use their clubs when hustlers showed up at their cave's entrance.

In today's world the tools for survival--brains and brawn--are necessities. You're smart enough to understand that. Isn't "survival" the primary reason for the elimination of one's enemies? Directly or indirectly, we all are a part of the killing machine. There is blood on everyone's hands--mine, yours, and your neighbors.

Our hairy ancestors didn't want an Ipod, or a computer, or to be free from someone hairy coming along and clubbing them for their Apple products.
Of course, a good faithful Christian caveman wouldn't covet his neighbour's Ipod.
And if we nominated a representative to discuss with the caveman a truce in which they don't club us and we provide them 200lbs of raw venison per month, we'd be pretty secure too.

As much as you'd like to think you don't contribute to the cruelty in this chaotic world, you do. Every time you go to a store looking for a bargain, you become--like it or not--a participant of a practice known as "slave labor." Check your wardrobe. Do you have any clothes or shoes made in China or India? Well, if you do, you are no better than the cruel bosses keeping the workers trapped in those sweatshops to provide you with your luxuries.
As I stated, directly or indirectly we are all connected to the mess surrounding us. And just because you have read a book or two in your lifetime and just because you have the ability to string a few sentences together to form a coherent idea, doesn't exempt you from the mess. Just check your wardrobe, the proof is in the pudding.
My point behind all this nonsense: perhaps both politics and religion (as we know them) should be admitted into the operating room. A surgery will only improve the patient.![]()

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at, typing on your computer with parts from China and India?
I completely advocate for religion and politics in the world. I understand that we live on a planet with finite resources, and have a population with infinite desires. Some of us are willing to put in extra effort, derive rewards from it, and protect it against others. We accept that there are services and customs that benefit the common good, but are not responsible from cradle to grave for the success of those around us.
At this point, I think I need you to define "politics" for me, maybe even religion? If you want them admitted to the operating room, you should at least let the doctor know the patient.

It would be awesome. I wouldn't have to vote or go to church.
