    Lib Dem then Con Dem

Just thought of starting a debate on British politics.

Some Liberal Democrat supporters seem to be upset at the coalition between the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives. The issue being that they (the Liberal Democrats) have betrayed their voters by joining a party with an opposing agenda.

There has already been cuts in public services which may probably create problems such as unemployment, crime and poverty.

Quite a few people in Britain rely on the welfare state for services such as health care and housing.

Reducing the funding towards the welfare state could possibly create more independence for people in Britain relying and paying into a system that is currently flawed and open to abuse.

The other take on this is the issue that so many people rely on the system at present that the changes now taking place due to cutbacks leave the less fortunate and vulnerable (this could be down to certain health issues or perhaps lack of education) in a situation where they may struggle to support themselves.

Would be interesting to hear opinions on this.

Money doesn't grow on trees. That includes the pound and euro.

I remember an interview with a British ambassador to Canada talking about how the British government is trying to deal with the deficit and is making significant cuts across the board. Looks like with the recent recession and the resulting !@#$storm, it's just a matter of balancing the budget.

Don't forget fruit and truffles. They technically grow "on" trees and can be sold for money.

England could try capitalism, make people get jobs perhaps.
They call me Spooky, Spooky Mulder. A joke to my peers and an annoyance to my superiors. Whose sister was abducated by aliens when he was a kid, and now runs around with a badge and gun yelling to anyone who is listening that the fix is in and when it hits, it'll be the crapstorm of all time.

Some would say that it was capitalism that got us into this mess in the first place.

The period when the UK was at its best economically and in terms of low unemployment figures was when there was a long period of real Labour government, under Harold Wilson and Jim Callaghan. It's unfortunate that there is no longer a real socialist option in the UK, with New Labour being as right wing as the Conservative Party and the Lib Dems having proven that they have no real backbone through their alliance with the Tories.

Although I may be wrong here (I dont know wether or not britan has the two party system), but I am opposed to the two party system. People sould be able to form political parties as they like to support their own causes. Liberals should act like liberals instead of acting like conservatists.

Political parties in general prevent critical thought from taking place.

The easiest ideas to accept are the ones already provided for you, and this is a pretty big flaw in politics. Politicians are usually willing to accept the ideas of their "team", regardless of how potent or dangerous their opinions are to the general public.

Just look at our boy Barack...

^ I promised myself I would use this thing for a debate sometime.

We have the same problem here. Obama is trying to promote small business. A man asked him how to start a small business. Obama told him to buy a big one and just wait.
