I'm sure there are people who will say the exact opposite of what I'm about to say but, actually, President Obama and Congress are the moderate voice. And, frankly, much too conservative for a lot of friends of mine who are actually socialists and dislike the Democrats for being so in-the-middle. Many of them don't vote, or vote third-party, simply because they see no difference between the parties.

If you look at history, you will see that America has moved so far to the right, that the supposed "liberals" are more conservative than the conservatives of the past. A policy almost identical to Obama's health care plan was proposed... by conservative Republican Richard Nixon. A much more liberal plan was proposed by conservative Republicans Dwight D. Eisenhower. This was way back when "bipartisan" meant something more than "taking the day off from spewing hateful rhetoric."

It is, in my opinion, rather tragic when people view the US's currently heinously out-of-control government as anywhere near being "moderate". To paraphrase a former US President, to say that our administration spends money like a bunch of drunken sailors is unfair to drunken sailors, who after all are spending their OWN MONEY.

The thing about socialism is, once you finally wake up to the fact that your government owns you, that you have nothing of your own anymore, and that you are slaving your life away to take care NOT of your fellow human beings but to enrich a handful of greedy dictators and their hired thugs, you're not in much of a position to do anything about it anymore.

That you still have a luxury of time and distance to declare the "moderacy" of your position means that you do in fact still have some time left to you. Become informed about the issues and VOTE for candidates who represent YOUR interests. (And if you don't like conservative or "right-wing" candidates, then by all means vote for their opponents! But every time you forgo voting, your chances of being able to maintain any sort of moderate or liberal point of view in the future are greatly decreased.)

i lived in a socialist country for several years of my life. It's not the horror story the tea party likes to paint. If this nation continues this crazed path, i can tell you that i would much rather move back to india. Don't call me un-american for it, sometimes the best medicine to save the country one loves is the cold hard truth.

The funny things is, the exact same thing is also true of capitalism, but replace the word "government" with the word "big business." And big business, of course, owns the government. That's what's true here in the United States, which is why the government is so far to the right, even the Democrats, though not as bad as the Republicans.

What we need isn't capitalism or socialism. We need a new "ism." How about "people-ism." How about "fairness-ism."

EVERYONE considers himself/herself a moderate in politics. It is always the other guy who is the radical for being to the left or the right...

What is happening is the internet and easily accessible media is bringing masses of previously uniformed non-voters into the political process. They are like small children, still forming there political opinions and thus easily molded by biased media sources. After being thoroughly convinced that what they know is "right" they show off their newfound knowledge to their friends and family, many of whom are also politically ignorant and whom take their word for it. Thus, this country is going through another great right-ward shift. The right is becoming the center, the center the left, and the left the far left. Glen Beck, a great example of your biased, in-your-face newstaintement, recently published a satirical book explaining what he and his colleagues are doing. The Overton Window is being shifted to the right; people's views on the issues are shifting, influenced by a large class of people who are just being educated by malicious tutors.

CharlesVer exactly right. Big Business controls government. Maybe that is for the best; I shudder to think what the idiots in government would do if left to their own devices. Regardless, the American political narrative is shifting and with it the moderate voices are being drowned out.
