    England is anti-semetic

The Israeli president has accused England of being anti-Semitic "They think the Palestinians are the underdog ... even though this is irrational"

Irrational? Is it possible that he is pro-Semitic?

He also said "There is in England a saying that an anti Semite is someone who hated the Jews more than necessary"
Been here sixty five, coming up sixty six years and I have never heard it, maybe it is the people I mix with, but really ...

I have nothing against Jews, there appear to be some very conscientious ones in Israeli prisons and writing reports on the invasion of Palestine, but the Israeli government ...

There's no doubt whatsoever that British media has a strong bias towards the Palestinians. It's easy to see how that would project an anti-Semitic image.

Only to those predisposed to see it that way I feel.

If a bias is evident, Olly, then people will naturally draw conclusions about that. To be honest I'm amazed at the amount of anti Jewish prejudice I still encounter in the UK.

Perhaps I let my intolerance of prejudice show too readily and people keep quiet, I know there used to be, but I have not encountered it outside the ignorant and stupid for some time.

Prejudice in any form is always the domain of the ignorant and stupid.

The Palestinians are the underdog, but that doesn't mean Israel's wrong.

Disagreeing with Israeli policies doesn't make you an anti-Semite. It's a cheap shot.

The problem is with people who deny Israel the right to defend itself. Many people seem to want Israel to lay back and open her legs.

Israel has gone too far lately. Disagreeing with its policies does not make one an anti-semite.

Here's my take on why there is anti-Semitism today. Israel was created this time round by being shoe-horned into a tiny corner of the Palestinian desert about sixty years ago and then populated with Europe's Jews. If they'd just been content to continue as they'd always been, greedy money-lenders, the rest of the world might have also been content. But, no, for sixty years they've been aggressive and territorial. They have only themselves to blame, and I have no time for them.

There is a difference between saying, "I hate all jews because they are jews" and "I hate what Israel is doing to the Palestinians, it has overstepped any sort of moral authority, and should return to its borders as defined by the UN at the time of their creation."

Too often any criticism of Israel is instantly met with a shout of "anti-semite!" and bars any rational debate. It reminds me of, "if you're not with us, you're with the terrorists" or 'four legs good, two legs bad." If one cannot justify the actions of a country without resulting to extremist views or absolutes there is a flaw in its logic.

I'm not anti-Israel; I hold them in equal regard to all others. It's just that I find their actions beneath the standard I hold for everyone else as well, and so I speak in condemnation.

Have read that some people in Britian are unwilling to express their pro-Israeli views (this speaks volumes) and that the sweeping statements in the *media are one sided. Well, that's really not news. While there are pro- and anti-Israeli views in all countries, this being emphasized, now, like it's something new; points to media scam to give Britian a break, in my opinion. I've read that there are a high number of incidents where physical assaults, verbal abuse and then racist graffiti will be on the increase. I have no tolerance for prejiduce and against the Jews, especially after having read the Gulag Archipelago when I was eighteen. Left a life long lasting impression.

I'm not privy to what's being broadcasted in Britian. But I do have issues with the *media. The use of emotive and euphemistic terminology and double-speak sway the audience one strict way. The British are hearing then acting. I could go on about media but I'd really be going off OP.

Right now I putting the cart before the horse to get to Olly's point. I'm reminded of Churchill's "one" opinion concerning the Jews. It's said that he differed from his peers who were critical of the Jews and Zionism. But then that he wanted the Holocaust? Prior, he had said that they were a "remarkable, formidable race" (somewhat akin, I think, to what Olly said) with which I agree and that spinning and then British actions are unjust and, in fact, down right scary.

I certainly treat it with extreme prejudice whenever I come across it.
