But can I encourage some of the "33 viewing" members to check out the Writer's Workshop? There always seems to be an overwhelming inbalance as far as the 'Critique' section and 'WW' section goes. Maybe someone knows something I don't? The reason I post in the WW section is so that search engines and naughty things can't try and nip some of my work.... but it feels as though I would be getting more constructive criticism and responses if I posted in the 'Critique' section.

Feedback? Thoughts? Tomatoes to throw?

Numbers can be deceptive. Some of those 33 viewers are bots, who, without membership, can't possibly visit the WW.

Mm... okay but it still seems that more people frequent "Critique," at least from the amount of feedback that stories get there. Or am I just being sulky?

Sometimes those bots have some pithy comments. Like those ones that critique movies on that show, you know the one.
It's a bot world, really.

hmm, I wouldnt count on it. It seems very difficult to get reviews no matter where you post. I guess folks here are pretty busy with their lives, and only rarely have time to sit down and read other's work. I suspect that most of the time, they come to check on their own work, or play games.

As far as Critique and Advice is concerned, it's easier to throw in a comment on "This is the first part of the first paragraph of the first chapter of my first novel," than it is to read and critique a complete short story in The Workshop.

I don't mean to be insulting. But it's exhausting reading scripts in WW. I try every now and then, but only if something catches my eye or I feel like having a sit down and squinting and reading something on my computer.

And even THEN, I start reading a piece and can easily lose interest... get fustrated... or just want to add spacing and indents! And usually, if I make the effort to reply, it's disregarded anyway by some other person saying "I liked it," which is of course, easier to swallow than, "Your central character hasn't been established and I've read 5,000 words... What am I reading?" (That of course, is an over imaginative example.)

I find your best bet for feedback is among your other WW's. You post feedback for them. They post feedback for you.

I have been posting to WW for about two months. I'm not looking for a lot of comments, I want solid, detailed critique from folks who know what they are talking about.

I critique the people on WW, and they do the same for me.

Reciprocation is a beautiful word, don't you think? You do something for someone else, and they'll feel compelled to do it back to you. As far as I can tell, there aren't that many pieces of work in either the WW or Critique and Advice that have no replies.

And it is very exhausting to read a script and then fully critique. I try to do it as much as I can, but we do have lives, you realise?

Oh yeah for sure. I rarely rarely critique an entire piece. Rather I choose a troublesome part and critique it. I don't believe in providing free editing services Some of the hard work needs to come from the writers. But I will provide general feedback too.
