How do I get readers?

Wondering if any of you who might keep a blog or webpage might have some advice on how to drive traffic my way. I started my blog several months ago, at first as a way to provide samples for potential freelance work, but have since changed it into a fictional, serial story. I was actually approached by a film producer from LA who wanted to option it for a series of comedy shorts for the web, but his offer was too low so I don't think it'll happen. My point is, if he thought it was good, then maybe I can get a healthy flow of traffic at the site, but I'm not sure how to go about this. Any suggestions? Apparently, I can't provide a link yet, but you can see the blog at popculturemess(dot)blogspot(dot)com. Thanks.

Despite how low the offer was from the film producer, you just rejected an offer to get more traffic to your site.

I agree, when you first start out, perhaps it is a good idea to take what you are offered at the moment.....Once recognized as a serious writer, then you will bring in bigger bucks......... Good Luck

I haven't completely rejected the idea, actually I still have the contract, just haven't signed. I just wonder if there is a better way...

Ask yourself... Will you lose anything if you sign the contract? It doesn't seem like you will. If you can write one thing that is good surely you can write another. So, sell the first and move on... But make sure you read the contract.....

Unfortunately, to get readers it's not about being a great writer. It's about SEO(Search Engine Optimization) and other website promotion methods. And for that you will have to look beyond a writing forum.

I ditto this. Why not accept the offer, as well as actively doing other things to get traffic, like getting your site out on forums and advertising? Not only do you get advertising for the site which you'll basically be paid for by signing the contract, you'll also be making your name bigger in the meantime.

Good advice, all, however, one of the main points of the contract is that by signing it I also sign away all my rights to future compensation, aside from a tiny percentage of the overall production budget for the initial series. If there are any further productions based on the character, I have no say in any of it. The blog is about the character, written in the character's voice, and basically totally revolves around the character, so, in signing the contract I would be forced to stop writing as the character. Suggestions?
