I wrote a children's book, how can I get it published?

I wrote a children's book. I would like to try to get it published.
How can I get anyone to look at my story?
I checked out the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators, but it costs 75$ to use the online forum.
Any help would be appreciated. Garmin

Post it here if possible; or, alternatively, you can post it in the 'Writers Workshop' section of this forum, which means it cannot be found on search engines--and, thus, is safer for publishing.

Edit: After re-reading your post, I realise by getting someone to "look at" your story, you mean a publisher. Sorry, I thought you meant to critique it. I can't help you on the publishing front.

Selorian is an unknown quantity at this point
Writer's Market would be a good way to find publishers. I think they even have a specific edition for children's books (not 100% sure, though). You should be able to find a copy at your local library.

Another option would be to find other children's books similar to yours already published and find out who published them. Then you should be able to find out information about submitting to them online at their websites.

Take a look here for some good general tips:
Agents for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators: Resources and a Guide

There are discussion on children's lit at:

Verla Kay's Website for Children's Writers & Illustrators

and:

Write4Kids Message Board

Absolutewrite has a section for children's writing.

Once your MS is like perfect and you have searched the market and learned how to write a query letter start contact agents and publishers.

By the way, there is some EXCELLENT advice on this whole process in these interviews with agents.

Regina Brooks is a cool woman and very hip on kid lit.

Welcome to Full Circle Literary

These people specialize in kid's stuff.

But again...have your act together before queries to agents. Or you wil burn bridges you may later need.

Hi Garmin, I would take Lins advise and look for an agent. Very few publishers even look at work sent from anyone who is not an agent. They just send out the usual rejection letter without even looking.

However if an agent likes what your doing then they can recommend you after editing etc., as they know who is looking for your type of material.

So look for an agent not a publisher.
