Apostrophe Help

Sorry if this has been asked before or is in the wrong place.

Which of these is correct:

"Bob and Charlotte's lives"

"Bob's and Charlotte's lives"

The entire sentence is: "This symmetrical ending to the film highlights the change that Bob and Charlotte’s lives have undergone."

I'm no grammarian but somehow I think the answer is even more convoluted.
IMHO, it's the first one - Bob and Charlotte's - but I would say "life" rather than "lives". And of course, "has undergone" instead of "have undergone".

Dunno why. Just a feeling.

Then of course you'll get the cowards who take the easy way out, by suggesting you re-work the sentence to phrase it differently.
