Story concept: The Thinkers League
Here's a kind of random yet slightly interesting concept I came up with today. Any advice on how I can bring it forward or how I can change it?:
In the years after the Union of 2050, where all humans joined a common cause, knowledge of the galaxy grew. It was a golden age, which slowly deteriorated into an age of strife. The small kingdom of humanity was ruled by tyrannical dictators and controlled by thinking machines. For years, people planned and waited. Finally, rebellion broke out. New order was established. Thinking machines were abolished, the dictators were executed, and a new Human law was established.
Soon, many humans found that they had simply moved themselves into a worse position. Knowledge was being destroyed. Huge sessions of brain washing blew away all remembrance of truth from people’s minds, and the new Human rulers established their own history.
There are those who remember, however. There are those who could never forget. They live on in the ranks of the New Order, acting as normal, hiding, breaking down the government one block at a time.
They are the Thinkers League; poets, writers, scientists, philosophers, all join this secret organization to fight for what they love.---
So basically, my main characters will be part of this small group as they break down the kingdom of man. It will be a lot of “big brother is watching” and corruption type stuff.
Sound like a dumb concept? A good one?
Edit: Here is my second idea ( I keep churning um up...):
This is set about 500-600ish years in the future.
A hundred years before the book starts, humanity's huge empire discovers a small planet called Ragron. On it, they find something amazing: another race of humans. These humans are in the equivalent to stone age earth and are not advancing fast however.
The people of Ragron treat the high tech human soldiers and colonists as the warriors of the gods who protect them. Humanity decides they want to keep these shadows of themselves alive so that one day they could join the human empire. So they watch over Ragron and defend it.
Now we get up to the story. Aliens are at war with the humans. Some battles have even been fought on Ragron, as these aliens have a strange obsession: The capture foes to learn about different cultures warfare techniques.
It will follow the adventures of a younger herder from the nomadic Carcobeast tribe of Ragron. Through a series of events, he and some of his tribesmen stumble upon a piece of rare and devastating technology that the aliens lost on a battlefield.
After they take it, attacks from the aliens begin. Now the herder MC (Sven) is faced with a choice: Give the aliens what they want and let the others die or deliver it to the 'Titans' (the humans) and risk his own life.
Sound good?

It's pritty good, but I can't see some poet beat up an army... With David vs Golith type books, you need to write alot of recon and garilla war fare. Make sure you know your war stuff.

Good concept, but played out. How many people have done this before? An interesting twist on this subject (something I saw in a movie with Ralph Fienes and Donald Sutherland) was that when the intellectual minority (your thinkers league) finally gained control, they turned out to be ultimately just as horrible as the facist government. There's clearly a story here, because I've read it dozens of times in published works. You'll have to work hard to make it original. Good luck.

It sounds a bit cliched to me, so if I was reading that on the cover of a book trying to decide whether to read it or not, I probably wouldn't. But, it could be executed very well and with what I saw of your writing style on the description I think you could make it intriguing.

Sounds very Orwellian, 1984-ish. It's an interesting idea, though I agree with New Moon in that I've seen this whole "corrupt-government-needs-to-go-down" sort of story before...that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't write a publishable story out this, it just means you'll need to take this old, tired idea and pull it off better than the rest.

Thanks everyone. If I write it, I'll definitely try and keep it original.
I added a second idea up there is you would be so kind as to check it out.
