Would you class this as science fiction?
Hi Guys,
I am currently writing a book at the moment and I would like peoples general opinion as to whether this should be classed as science fiction. Here's the synopsis.
Quote:
When Radar Stations across Western Europe track a fast moving object streaking across the former Soviet Union, NATO forces are immediately put on high alert.
French, Belgium and US Stationed Air forces rush to scramble their aircraft to shoot down the hostile intruder. Unable to keep pace with the UFO, the planes are forced to stand down and the UFO heads out over the North Sea. A squadron of RAF Tornadoes are scrambled, however they too are unable to keep pace with the UFO.
Finally, an order is given to scramble an experimental aircraft code name Shockwave from a remote airfield in Northern Scotland. A high tech game of cat and mouse then unfolds over the Irish Sea. As the Shockwave engages the UFO it forces it to change direction, seconds later the hostile aircraft finds itself in the flight path of European Airlines Flight 113. A collision occurs, and everyone on board the airliner is killed.
SAS Hereford despatch a special unit to locate the UFO which crash lands in a remote region of North Wales. A cover story is then sent out to the news networks stating that the airliner had been destroyed by an Al Qaeda terrorist group who are campaigning to oust American and British Forces from their homeland. After nine months the official investigation, into the so called terrorist attack is closed and no suspects are brought to justice.
When a computer system at GCHQ is hacked into and information stolen, MI6 are given the task of tracking down the thief. However, their chief suspect is mysteriously murdered and the information disappears.
As the news spreads throughout the western world’s security organisations an Ex KGB agent is despatched to try and locate the missing information so that he can sell the information to the highest bidder. At the same time CIA officials despatch one of their own men to stop the Russian agent.
For small time journalist Alan Manning of the London Evening Examiner a routine murder investigation turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse. The victims name is Paul Fleming, a UFO Fanatic, and a man with the knack for poking his nose where it doesn’t belong.
Alan is slowly and reluctantly dragged into the centre of a twisted conspiracy. Before he died Paul Fleming was investigating the disaster behind the Flight 113 mystery. A notebook belonging to the dead man winds up in the hands of Alan Manning, together with a memory card encrypted with a complex security code. Slowly Alan must unravel the mystery behind the information stored on the card and follow the clues in Fleming’s notebook. But by doing this more questions begin to emerge concerning the seemingly straight forward airline disaster.
Alan is approached by a man claiming to be an ex member of the SAS, and a former friend of the murdered man. The ex soldier reveals information concerning a top secret group set up in 1952. Called the Angel Committee, it was established by Winston Churchill himself, and its main function was to monitor and collect all information relating to UFO activity over the UK.
Alan soon becomes the pawn in a power struggle between government factions and a dark consortium of men determined to keep the truth from the unsuspecting public. Hot on his heels are agents from MI6, CIA, KGB who seem determined to get their hands on the memory card.
In his quest for the truth Alan Manning travels from one end of the country to the other, from the run down streets of Liverpool to the very corridors of British power

The story doesn't involve any plot lines about invading aliens or anything along those lines. It mainly focuses on the conspiracy to cover up the truth.
Could you guys give me some input please.
Thanks

From reading the little there is here, I got the vague idea that it's more of a thriller than sci-fi.
It's got the makings of a tolerably good thriller, I'd say.

I'd say it would probably be classified as sci-fi/psychological/thriller, not the type of thing I would personally read, but if it was a movie I would go and see it. If it was done well it could be really good.

Sounds like another Bourne type movie in the making. I could have said James Bond, but all the bond movies just dont thrill me anymore.
