Meh, I've read light fantasy too.

But for your serious fantasy artifact, a book would work fine.

Yeah I think a book may work. One day I may write a short story with a care bear for a magical artifact which would be amusing.

How about a circlet? It's like a metal band people wore on their heads in the mideval times. It could be like silver and cool and magical and whoever wears it does stuff. lost my train of thought. good luck!
