Naming a Book

Greetings, ManaCorp 'ere.

Just wondering if someone has any advice on how to name a book, I've always used generic one's such as: ManaQuest and Journey, just to fill that in and take my mind off it. But now I need a title anyway, I'd love some of your advice!!

Well, that depends on the book, doesn't it?
Can you give me a brief summary of what yours is about?

i find that books will name themselves, if you pay attention to what you've written... somewhere in there is a perfect title...

You need a title that is related in some way to the book and will catch people's attention. After all, a lot of the time the first bit of the book you see is the spine, and the title.

It depends on the story, to a large extent, as well as the genre, and finally on your own taste.

Quirky titles can be very successful, like The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream; but who would have thought of that one?

Without Obama's name recognition, threre would be a rejection letter in the making.

There is crap written; and, I ain't saying his is crap, by well known people that would not be published bu you or me.

-A title bridging from the theme of the book
-An extremely memorable phrase from the book
-An allusion to another literary work (a SUBTLE one) that relates in some way to your book.

I agree with sixlivesdown's first point, find the most important unifying theme in your book and apply a pointed and succinct title to it. Then name it your book.

I think the best (most interesting) way to title a book is to use an important phrase within the book, as sixlivesdown suggested.

hey, that's a nifty title!... could work well with any number of plots...

story of a guy who led a dozen lives [or had a dozen wives]?

mystery about a novelist who was killed before he finishes his thriller?

comic romance about a reader falling in love with a novel's hero?
