Well, laurelinuk, you've definitely got your answer now. Down with guilt! But of course, if you do actually feel it, then simply advising you not to may not work. Perhaps one way of dealing with it is to remind yourself that writing is all about honesty, by which I don't mean telling things the way they actually are or have been experienced in real life, but taking whatever essential thing it is that you've observed or experienced and want to express in your fiction, and making sure that that is what you do indeed express. In other words, don't hesitate to distort, exaggerate or turn upside down or inside out - it generally makes the whole process easier because you can be more detached - as long as you don't shy away from what you want to express. Your writing will then be honest and there'll be no room for guilt.
