help me name my character!!!

I have a character I love. She is like a real person. The story is set in the future. This future kinda a cross between Final Fantasy and Blade Runner.

She has long wavy brown hair but it's kind of dirty and she wers a black headscarf over the top. She has pale skin and brown eyes. She wears a pirate-type shirt and a long brown leather greatcoat and boots.
The clothing of most of the characters is old fashioned mixed with cyber-future so she has face paint symbols like from The Tribe in really bright colours. She isn't a really nice Marysue person and she looks out for herself. She has the personality of a real person with flaws and good points. At the end of the story (at the risk of being cliche) she dies with one of the characters, Nikon, holding each other.

There are so far only three names i know that suit her Artemis, Avril and Alexis. Please help me choose one of these or come up with a better one!!

Out of the three you named, I liked Artemis best.

Whatever you pick, I'd sincerely advise you not to make it hard to say or longer than four/five syllables OR just plain ridiculous. There are a lot of sweet names on Babynames.com. Trust me, slightly unusual names with meanings will sit a lot better with a potential reader than "Xyshangrua" or something.

EDIT: Oh, and I'd totally veto "Aeris", as someone suggested, because that's a direct ripoff from the game series that apparently inspired you.

I agree, it always bothers me when I can't figure out how to say a character's name... but we won't go there, lol

Hmm, how about something like
Sharon
Dale
Audra
Janis
I see those as pretty independent and self-reliable names...Good luck picking one that you think suits the character.

Forgot to mention, out of the ones you posted, I like Avril!

as weird as this sounds, my advice is to not worry about the name. Just start writing this story leaving an empty space or [name] wherever her name is mentioned. sooner or later, you'll begin thinking of her name b/c its something you'd associate with her.

...sorry, not sure that made any sense. feel free to disregard this, in that case.

And as for names, there are some good random name generators out there on the web, as previousy mentioned, but don't fall into the 'y' trap (that is where all the names in the story include at least one y such as elyn, kyle, etc...) those are far over-used (in my oppinion), and it becomes tiresome to read repetitive y's. Plus its not good to have your reader stumble over a name. It shouldn't be too complex...

I suggest something iron and classic,
Jaqueline
Do away with over used "original" names which are confusing and pointless. Jaqueline is strong, independant, bold, and feminine at the same time. Just my thought!
