Alliteration

When is the use of alliteration inapropriate? I'm answering questions on an applitcation... is it appropriate here? Also, is it alliteration if only three worlds share the same sound?

Yes, it's alliteration if only three words share the same sound. It's alliteration if only two words share the sound, even.

And I think it's appropriate any time, because I just used it twice (inadvertently) in the above sentences.

Thanks Hodge, that's a big help.
Are there any other cool attributes of language that have qualities similar to those of alliteration?

Consonance and assonance are similar, but not quite the same. They're the repition of consonant and vowel sounds, respectively.

Alliteration

I agree. I think alliteration is almost universally appropriate, as well. Well, in written communication, anyway. Assonance (over consonance) sounds better spoken, and in lyrics... generally. Take this into consideration when using whatever alliteration you're going to use.
