Harry Potter Scene

Hi All

I know this is like the scene in one of the HP books where Hermione accepts to help them with their essays, but I have made it up with my own words, and was just wondering what people think.

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no intention of inserting this scene into any book as it is very similar to HP. I just wanted to know what people thought of my writing style. Any and all suggestions, ideas, tips are welcome.

It was already past midnight, and still Harry hadn’t got that essay on Properties of Asparagus completed for Professor Flitwick. His failed attempts lay crumpled upon the floor. He knew that if he didn’t get it done Flitwick would give him detention. The page only had a couple of paragraphs written on it, though, while Harry struggled through book after book trying to find something he could use to make his essay look more appealing.

A quiet knock from the door was a welcome interruption, and he wade his way through the sea of screwed-up paper. When he opened the door, Hermione smiled at him. “Hey Harry, have you finished the Properties of Asparagus report for Professor Flitwick?”

“Oh…er…nearly done,” he lied. Hopefully she wouldn’t spot the unfinished essay on his desk.

“Well I should think so,” she said eyeing the paper that lay strewn over the floor. “You know, you shouldn’t leave your homework till the last minute,” she said reproachfully.

“Yeah, well we’re not all as smart as you, Hermione.” Then as an afterthought, “I don’t suppose you could give me a few pointers, could you.” The sheaf of pages in her hands, folded into perfect, neat thirds, were so enticing as he compared it to his poor half a page attempt.

“Oh, alright. Give them here, then.” She collected his essay and took it to a secluded desk in the far corner, where she immediately set to work. Harry winced at the number of times she pulled out her red pen and scribbled over his work.

After about fifteen minutes, she sat back in her chair and pushed the pages to the edge of the desk. “There. That should do it.”

Harry looked incredulously. His essay had gone from half a page to nearly three pages in length. “Wow – Hermione this is incredible. How on earth do you remember all this stuff?”

“I listen,” she said matter-of-factly.

Cheers

That last line... It's so very Hermione. It made me laugh.

I love the way that's written. I winced myself. That's definately something we can all relate to!

I like your writing style. It reminds me of mine! Don't change a thing!
