Wolf Winter
By:
Akimura
Prologue: Beginnings
Akimura sighed and clutched her bookbag closer to her back. 'Damn winter. I hate the cold.' She thought sourly. She sighed again and leaned against the large pillar behind her. Her ears twitched, listening to the rustle of the leaves and branches. 'This season is so depressing to me…'
Her ears twitched again, this time picking up the tell-tale laugh of Reika, a young were-lioness, though she did not know of her heritage yet. Akimura smiled slightly at the sight of her adopted little sister. “Nee-chan!!” Reika called when she spotted Akimura, and hurried over.
“Mou, Jou-chan! Where’s Blade-sama?” Akimura inquired. “Dunno. He was all depressed in class. I think Yukari and him had a fight again,” Reika shrugged. Then she grinned, an evil glint becoming apparent in her eyes. 'Shit. I’m in trouble now. I just know I’ll be blushing before the bell rings.' Akimura thought. “Ano, did you try asking him to date you? You’d be perfect for him, Aki!” Akimura blushed at the complement, but shook her head. 'Damnit. I knew it.'
“Yes, I did. But like every other idiotic male before him, he rejected me. Am I really that…Dispicable?” She asked quietly. She had always thought of herself as an outcast, since people always seemed to shy away from her. She hated it; her entire life had been spent alone. She often had found herself staring out a window -- it didn't matter where, or when -- with the same, solitary thought running through her head.
'When...When will I find love? Will I ever find it, that is...?'
That one moment was no exception. Reika apparently noticed the faraway expression on her older sister's face, and waved a hand briskly in front of it. "Helloo! Earth to nee-chan!" Akimura jumped at the sudden movement, and nearly pounced, ready to sink her teeth into any enemy flesh; until she realized who it was.
"Reika! You're going to get it for scaring me like that!" She tried to act mad, but failed miserably as her sister smiled sweetly. Rolling her eyes, Akimura sighed, and turned to survey the students who had gathered in the large area in front of the gym.
"Hn..."
"What?"
"Nothing. I'm just thinking."
"Right."
"I'm serious. Ne, Rei, do you think I'll always be alone? Do you think that because of being an anthropomorph, I'll never find love?"
"Huh?! Where'd that come from?!"
"...Nowhere. Nevermind."
The bell rung suddenly, silencing them from their conversation. Akimura began to walk away, shouting a "See you later!" over her shoulder. As she did this, though, an unexpected shiver ran through her. 'Someone's watching me...Someone very powerful. He's nearby, too. Where are you...' She turned her head slowly, her eyes scanning every detail of the perimeter. No one seemed suspicious, though, in fact, she wasn't sure if she had really even felt it, or if it was her lonely mind playing a cruel trick.
With that, she shook her head, smiling ruefully, and continued towards her next class. 'Up next, Earth Science,' she thought happily.
Unkown to Akimura, though, was a handsome young man, with eyes and a body as sleek and powerful as a wolf, following her. He stopped at the edge of a building, known simply as Building 5, his golden stare on her every movement. His eyes followed her until she entered the next building, Building 10. Then, smiling, he melted into the mob of students, and headed for his own class.
"I will have you, my lovely tigress. Don't worry, you won't be without love for much longer..."
His whispered words went unheard by everyone, but soon, he knew they would come true.
Chapter One: Meeting
The wind blew harshly as Akimura walked to the waiting area at the end of the day. She knew by the strength, direction, and smell of it that winter was reaching it's center; it was early December, and already icy-cold. Snarling to herself, she tugged her jacket closer, muttering curses under her breath.
Winter had always signified just how alone she really was. It's desolate setting, biting chills, and altogether depressing feel was how her life had always been. But she kept on going because she knew, just like the spring, that she'd always begin anew. This hope of her life taking a brand new turn continually rang through her mind, pushing her onward.
Akimura shivered, glaring at the road, willing her father's car to come into view. Being stuck at school after-hours was not something she considered fun. After about ten more minutes, the silver 1991 Cadillac DeVille turned into the pick-up lane, and she all but ran in an attempt to get out of the cold and away from the school.
Her father asked her how her day had been, and she answered with her usual remark of, "It was fine." She doubted he realized just how alone she really was, and she never thought to bring the subject up with her mother, either. In fact, to her mother, dating was disgusting, as was having even a small attraction to a man. She forbade Akimura to date untill she was 21 years of age, and by doing so, utterly smashed Aki's soul.
What her mother did not realize was that, no matter how much she talked and acted on the outside, on the inside, she was doing the absolute oppisite. In fact, Akimura had already been with a young man no more than a year before. However, in the end, he broke her heart. This caused her to loose her trust in men, but it did not stop her from longing for the love she knew she'd never have.
Once home, Akimura plopped down on her favorite chair and flipped on the television. She sighed, and smirked as one of her favorite shows came on, and lost herself in its story. 'Maybe I'll work on a fanfiction for it later...' she thought. Along with being a blossoming artist - though she considered her skills horrendous - she was a very talented writer.
