Looks like the right spot for this...

I was wondering ... I notice a lot of people post some of their original work here. I personally wouldn't do that. Even if it was just something for fun, you migth want to use it someday. How does everyone feel about this?

Personally, I'm really not worried about anything of that nature. Then again, I'm not really to the point of wanting to publish anything yet (as in I have yet to create anything worthy of publication). Though even if I did, I would "publish" it on my own little site (the link to which is in my signature). I just.... don't really care enough about getting paid for writing short stories to care about how I get my work to be read. If I were to write a novel, on the other hand, I would want it published. I would still post certain chapters here for critique, but that wouldn't really affect anything (except perhaps the quality of those chapters). Anyway, those are my ramblings.

But what if you saw something of yours used somewhere? That's what I mean, more that than even the money and such. I would just get mad seeing my stuff used by someone else period.

I agree, and find myself in the same position as Leapord.

I trust people here, for one, people don't come here to steal your work then come here for help to create their own. Plus I think that work you put online is protected.

Yes it is, assuming you can prove that it's yours (which shouldn't be too difficult).

the thing about a community like this is we're all writers - we're all in the same boat. We all understand not to steal someone else's work because they don't want theirs stolen. I'm not saying that some wierdo couldn't grab the poems, but I agree with Leapord, and this community is about getting other people's opinions on their own writing. It's a way of putting your work in perspective. In some cases, it knocks you off your high horse, in others, it brings up your confidence. Either way, we all get weighed against each other and the powerful force of opinion.

But really, when you weigh out the pros and cons, it's worth it too post here. I mean, I'm not going to go and post my entire novel here but I'm ot in the least bit scared to post segments to get advice from great writers.

I would have to agree with the majority.

As Cora stated, we are all writers. Most of us seek the goal of having our writing acknowledged and reviewed, even critiqued. We desire others' opinions to thrive on (for self-confidence) and to improve our writing so that we may actually fulfill whatever goal we set for our writing. I also doubt that many others have thought of stealing someone's poetry, etc. from this site.

I tend to talk more than necessary, it seems. Well, simply to the point: I think it is safe to post here.

I agree. I post nearly everything I write here, because I like to get feedback for my work that I would not otherwise get. As for being worried about my stuff being stolen, first off, I doubt that anything I've written is worth stealing, second, I think that there is a copywrite when you post the stuff online.

Even if you don't post it online, you still get a copyright as soon as you save it to a Word file (or any other kind of file), or put it on paper. It's easier to prove when you created it if you post it online though.
