help!

I have an argument... if a poem starts rhyming I think it should continue to rhyme. He thinks it doesn't have to, that it can just stop rhyming.

I would think that the rhyming scheme of a poem should be consistent throughout. I'm not an expert in poetry, but that's what I think.
