The accidental novel

I wrote this message to a forum for hiIQ Christians (I'm in a life crisis right now):

"About tears--
Long-distance commercials make me cry.
The World Series makes me cry.
I don't cry for my own pain--I can't."

The reply:
"Those were the best first lines to start a novel I have read in a long time.

"Use it. Start in. Write out your grief and anger and pain. Send it to me. I'll read it...."

Wow! That ws unexpected!

What's my next step?
Thanks

Are you serious?

Come on. Dust those brain cells off and have a play around with it.

If you don't know what to do with it, why would we?

*best intentions*

Put the pen to the paper and write. That should be the first, middle, and last step if you ask me. Yes writing can heal the soul. Just do it like nike says

Have you ever read "A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain," by Robert Olen Butler? There is one story where the main character has the very same complex (she actually mentions the long distance commercials). Perhaps I read too much, but it might be worth picking up for research's sake.

Think about what was bothering you when you wrote that. If it's not specific, think of all of the things that were bothering you or are still bothering you. Pick the one that you feel most strongly about and use it to construct a theme. Then you just need a plot. Just start writing. Once you get started it'll be a breeze.
