A short story; Experiment

I wrote this during school hours, latetly I've been trying short stories to improve my writing. It doesn't appear like that's coming along good.

Well anyways, here it is. =D

Also, if you give up reading I understand, I kinda noticed it drags a little.

The first battle of the seventh realm

Skarinshin could feel the cold winds of the dimension blow fiercely against his outfit. He had not been here in centuries; it would have stayed that way if it was not for the situation. He had come to this place for one purpose, to stop his brother Aragronis who was looking for something in which he was responsible for protecting.

He didn’t know how his brother had come to discover this place; he thought he had buried its secret away. He was wrong. The mortals he had come to trust must have leaked information, though he hoped there were okay.

Running Skarinshin told his men to wait here as they arrived infront of a temple; he’ll check if it’s safe he told his soldiers. He’d rather have his own life in danger then there’s lost so meaninglessly. He stared at the door for a second, and then kicked it. The force from his kick send the door hurdling across the temple floor where in came to halt at the boot of his brother.

Aragronis was standing at the foot of the giant statue of a serpent like-dragon. In his hand there was a sphere marked with the simples of his brother. The two looked almost similar, except that Aragronis was younger and his hair was grey and longer.

“Brother, before I do this…I want to ask why, why you did this to me, why you erased who I was and…and took away by body.”

Skarinshin lowered his head, before he replied.

“Brother, do you think it was easy for me, keeping you in the dark from your own heritage. No, every time I looked at you I had to fake a smile just to hide the feelings but it was for the a great cause, to keep the humans safe from what you were.”

“That’s like you, always trying to do what’s right. Going on about listening to you’re heart grab to me, yet you did this.”

“Aragronis….Aragronis you have to understand that it was to protect you, you in your true form you had more power then even mother of father, but you were out of control you must see….”

“No more brother. I heard enough, you lied to me, and for that I can never forgive you.” Aragronis turned his back and faced the statues claws.

“Now brother, watch my….awakening” Aragronis turned to Skarinshin with a smile on his face.

“No!” Yelled out Skarinshin as his brother was about to place his sphere in the statues claws the soldiers rushed through the door, His Commander who was amongst the men took out his rifle and aimed at the sphere. With a dead on shot he struck the sphere and knocked it out of Aragronis hands. The Commander who was reloading his rifle didn’t see that Aragronis had fired a spell at him. Skarinshin turned and watched as one his best soldiers and friend was engulfed by flames. The whole room was in chaos as Aragronis began firing spell after spell trying to look for the sphere. He brought the slaughter to a halt, as he jumped at his brother and there swords clashed. The men stopped, careful not to get in the way of there leader and his foe.

Constantly guarding and evading each others hits, they battled with such persuasions and accuracy unlike any man mortal swordsman. There power and speed dazzled the soldiers as they watched in amazement, this had been there first time seeing there leader use this much of strength.

While watching the fight, one of the soldiers turned to see something shining from the corner of walls, hidden underneath of the statues. When he had reached down for it, he could see it was the sphere that moments before there target had been carrying.

Skarinshin whose sight was in that particular direction could see this as well. His brother who had seen his eyesight shift must have suspected something; because he had decided do a pretty stupid move. As soon as he had gotten enough distance Aragronis stabbed the floor with this sword. The area around the sword began to create a field of electricity that grew with the more energy it gathered.

With the safety of his men in mind, he yelled to retreat. The men had heard his ordered and began to retreat from the temple, but at the moment he had issued the order, Aragronis leaped away. Skarinshin had seen what he was after, the soldier who had been carrying the sphere. Before he had reached the soldiers, Skarinshin griped his sword and tossed it but missed his target by an inch.

As Aragronis reached the soldier he was looking for, the others around him fought to defend him. Skarinshin ran towards them as fast as he could. Their strength and bravery weren’t enough and they were tossed aside or killed quickly by Aragronis’ grip. Turning to see Aragronis sword getting to its critical point, Skarinshin began focusing all his strength into a single blow as he got further to his brother.

Surprisingly his brother, who was to determine to get the sphere back, had let down his guard and with that opportunity present, his attack was a success. The whole room felt a breeze as his fist collided with his brother’s chest, throwing him violently threw the wall where is body was buried in debris.

Skarinshin turned to soldier with the sphere.

”RUN!”

The soldier’s eye widened at the sound of his leaders voice, before he took of running.

The sound of a clap echoed from beneath the debris, quickly reacting Slarinshin made a small gesture. From his feet a small white aura began to rise, but before it was all around him he was engulfed by the explosion of his brother’s spell.

Struggling back to his feet, with his right side severally burned he began looking around to see where his brother had gotten too. The answer came to him when he heard the screams of men, and the man carrying the sphere came flying threw the front door. From outside walked in Aragronis, a confident smile on his face and the sphere in his right arm.

“Why are you doing this?” asked Skarinshin.

His brother approached him before answering, “You want to know why…the answers right in front of you…Vengeance, for what you and our so called parents did.”

“They loved…”

His words were cut short as his brother send him hurdling aside with a slap across the face. Skarinshin turned over to his stomach and watched as his brother stood at the foot of the dragon statue once again. This time he couldn’t stop him, not in this damaged form, so he waited.

As the Aragronis placed the sphere in the dragon’s claws, a small tremor shook the temple. It was minor but then soon it began to grow, until it felt like the whole temple was going to collapse but Skarinshin knew what was happening. The whole temple was airborne, and underneath them was a giant stone corpse on which he had buried.

Outside the temple, the corpse had risen far into the sky and waited for its soul to enter once again.

“Brother, as much as I would love to finish you off here….I need something to test my strength on seeing I no longer remember anything.”

Skarinshin didn’t make a reaction, but he knew this was coming. His brother wasn’t going to kill him in this form, not with confidence and pride like his. Raising his arms to the sky and then letting out another chant, Skarinshin teleported to a safe position. There was nothing he could do now but watch, but in is heart he was happy there were going to fight here in this dimension rather then the human’s realm.

In the skies, he could see his brother come into view atop the head of the stone corpse. His body began to light up as and then slowly break apart into tiny orbs of light that danced around, and then disappeared into mouth of the dragon.

“I guess it’s time…” Skarinshin whispered to himself and then began his transformation in the same manner as his brother. His body became dancing orbs of light, but behind him a giant massive figure was beginning to materialize out of thin air. Particles gathered and swirled around the mass until it was complete and Skarinshin’s entered his true self. A giant black dragon, with a serious look in his eyes, on his back wings like an angel extended out giving the dragon a majestic pose.

Across the dimension, Aragronis was awakening as well. The stone shell that surrounded his body began to fall apart until his long snake body could freely. The life in his its eyes returned with a menacing glare, the stench of his breath reach far across the land killing what life there was below. Unlike his brother, he didn’t have wings but had the gift of levitation.

The sound of Aragronis’ voice echoed throughout the realm “Skarinshin, this place seems a little crowded.”

Skarinshin grinded his teeth, he didn’t think his brother would come to re-discover his own abilities so soon.

Aragronis let out a roar that sent waves of energy in all directions, tearing down the walls that kept the dimension in place until they were back in the human realm. A mocking smile crossed his face.

“I’m feeling a little weak today, brother.”

Before Aragronis could make another move, Skarinshin attacked stopping him from using his other ability. His claw collided with a massive blow to the face that made his brother flinch, but not before his long tail rose up and whipped Skarinshin across the face and tossed him into a mountain. Rising up from the ground, he closed his wings as he was bombarded by his brother’s 'from the heaven’s attack'.

Aragronis, with a free moment took the skies as quickly as he could. Skarinshin unfolded his wings and blew away the surrounding smoke; he looked around the land for his brother. When he looked to the sky he could see Aragronis levitating, staring down at him with his evils eyes.

Skarinshin, desperate to stop his brother from using his spell lifted off the ground and raced after trying to stop him, but was too late. Aragronis’ jaw widened and then out from his a mouth he released a roar like an explosion that Skarinshin couldn’t resist. With his ears ringing, the dragon looked to the sky. His brother was trying to tell him something, but in the back of Aragronis is what made him dread. A giant blue sphere was beginning to form as four stems connected themselves to the planet. They began draining the life from every living being, stealing from the cycle of life and gathering. this was the reason Aragronis would later be known as the Apocalyptic Dragon.

“My brother” spoke Skarinshin. “I’ve kept another secret from you, please forgive me!”

“It doesn’t matter Skarinshin, nothing you can say or do will stop me!” replied Aragronis.

Skarinshin raised his head high, “I’m the Guardian.”

Aragronis’ face turned to a fearful expression as he heard those words, “Im-Impossible”

“And since your actions apply to the heavens first rule, human affairs are left to human affairs, if otherwise then the guardian assigned by the angel of that realm is too defend it until his last dying breath…and I shall”

A blue aura began to illuminate around Skarinshin’s body as his carapace began to change from organic to steel. Inside his body, he could feel his bones becoming harder and his skin thicken. When the transformation was complete his steel carapace had morphed itself into a perfect design of armour capable of movement in any direction.

Aragronis gave out a mocking laugh, before he unleashed a stream of heat at his brother. His laugh faded as Skarinshin extended his claw out and blocked the attack without any effort. Seeing his brother’s new power, Aragronis began charging his attack. Skarinshin waited, if he had attacked now Aragronis would only make a run. When the blast was done, Skarinshin leaped at the high concentration of energy as it escaped his brother’s mouth. He opened his jaw and felt the Immense power of try to tear through him, but he pushed forward denying the attack victory, until he was in range of his brother and struck.

Aragronis tried to escape, but Skarinshin had already bitten into his neck. Keeping him locked his brother tried to escape, once with his tail and the other with claws but to no avail. With his free arms Skarinshin began pummelling his brother’s face and lower exposed area, until his brother’s actions became less frequent. Too finish it off, Skarinshin through his brother up, then spun around and used his tail to send his brother hurdling towards the ground.

A large mass of dirt filled the air as Aragronis crashed into the earth, destroying the landscape with impact. Skarinshin watched from the skies as his brother was squirming around trying to get away. When he had realized what Aragronis was doing he called upon one of his strongest attacks. The heavens behind Skarinshin opened up as he roared, and with a flash a light spread across the land, leaving it burned and desolate.

Skarinshin examined the area before he did any kind of celebrating. When the dust had clear he wasn’t surprised. There was a giant hole right in the center that Aragronis had used to escape the blast. Skarinshin calmed himself for a second and began listening for the vibration of his brother’s movement. The sound of the voices wailing from the giant blue sphere was making things difficult but eventually he heard him. Skarinshin dove towards the ground; getting closer Skarinshin began to here the sound of energy gathering rapidly but continued his dive. Just as he reached the ground, beams of light emerged from all over the terrain. Within a second before the blast exploded beneath Skarinshin his wings cocooned around him.

Rising from the dirt, Aragronis looked around and admired the capabilities of his destructive powers. His brief moment of happiness was ruined when his eyes came across his brother, who was just leaving the protection of his wings. Skarinshin was breathing heavily, that last blast was more powerful then he had expected. His wings here now burdening him, they had become heavy so he reached into his mind and released his grip on them and then fell to the ground were he landed perfectly on his hind legs.

Hearing the ground moving, Skarinshin turned only to be tackled by Aragronis. He made several attempts to inflict serve damage, but Skarinshin managed to block them all.

“I see you’re getting tired brother…” Aragronis laughed.

“As are you brother, you’re strength is near its end.” replied Skarinshin.

Aragronis beginning laughing but then let out a sudden roar. Skarinshin looked to the sky and watched as a massive amount of souls were separating from the sphere. They were travelling down and getting closer to Aragronis, until he devoured the blue essence.

“One thousands souls….a quick recovery.” Aragronis shouted, his wounds healing.

“So brother, this is another one of your abilities, I find it disgusting how you disregard life.”

“Judge me all you want Skarinshin, with all this power your words mean nothing, nothing…you here me.”

“You’re blind brother; all this power has corrupted your reason….your heart has turned black…you’re no longer Aragronis.”

“As I said before, the meaning of your words are useless. I now only see myself as right….I am perfect”

Skarinshin lowered his head and said nothing, but he could hear Aragronis already charging an attack.

“Aragronis! Before the end….know this, I wanted to fight you honourable tell the end, but it seems that is no longer an option….also, I love you!”

Skarinshin Raised his head high and began a loud echoing roar, Aragronis unleashed his attack at his brother but watched as it slowed down in front of him, then faded into nothing. The area around Skarinshin’s body had begun to bend the dimensions, a move that required the last of what strength he could conjure.

Gesturing his head forward, Skarinshin released the attack upon Aragronis who tried to escape but was already trapped by how heavy the gravity had become. The attack engulfed Aragronis like a snake swollen its prey, energy from all around began closing off around him, getting smaller and smaller. When the spell was complete, there was silence as Skarinshin stood alone in a massive crater. A small tear escape the dragon’s right eye, before he collapsed in the dirt but as his vision began to fade, there shined of what was left of Aragronis. His sphere lay in the dirt.

It had been done, Aragronis the apocalyptic dragon had been sealed in another dimension. This time, its wall’s weren’t as frail as the last. He wouldn’t be able to escape without the assistance of a being as powerful as him, or that of divine power. High above in the skies, the giant blue sphere began fading away returning the souls to living and the dead, letting the cycle continue.
