Beatrix Potter: Reject

Just been around Beatrix Potter's old house in the Lake District. One exhibit was a letter she received from a literary magazine rejecting a number of her short stories. One was "not topical enough," apparently, another "too obviously a children's story," a third not sufficiently upbeat. The magazine did accept one of Potter's stories, however. Presumably it was a sophisticated and satirical, if optimistic, tale. It was, however, called something like 'The Wee Dainty Fairy Boots.'

This should give us all encouragement for the following reasons:

a) The most successful writers have had to deal with rejection

b) Publishers have never had any idea what they're talking about.

imagine how sick you would be if you were a publisher or agent that turned down JK Rowling.
