I'm not entirely sure if there is already a post about this (I'm new), but here I go.

I feel any aspiring writer should read The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things. Or any Leroy book. Despite the author being a fictional creation of Laura Albert, you can't help but fall into the world of Jeremiah and you'll be shocked when you're finished and think "this is not a real life story." A guaranteed favourite with anyone who reads it.

Granted, the plotlines can be extremely disturbing but that's what makes it so beautiful.
