Question Help on Moonfleet

Can anyone tell me what J.M.Falkner meant when he said "As in life, so in a game of Hazard, skill will make something of the worst of throws."?

No matter how bad a situation you are in; knowing what to do can make all the difference to the outcome.

Games of Hazard

Put Simply,

There is a tide in the affairs of men,
which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune,
Omitted, all the voyage of their lives is passed in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat, and we must take the current as it
serves, - or lose our ventures.

Ritengo che questo sia abbastanza facile.

19 si scrive diciannove in italiano.
