First few that came to my head, there may be more that are slipping my mind.

Bret Easton Ellis
Irvine Welsh
Franz Kafka
Hubert Selby Jr.
Hunter S. Thompson

With an honorable mention going to Ted Dekker for his ability to realistically create alternate realities and somehow tie them in with the other, more modern world in his novels.

I've been wanting to read Salinger, but am still following a list I made for myself and Salinger is another ten authors to go or so. Few weeks and I'll be eating his stuff up. Can't wait.

Scotty Fitz.

And when I was little, Brian Jaques. His stories set my imagination afire.

This may seem childish...but...J.K Rowling. I love reading Harry Potter. I also love Kevin Brooks. Nora Roberts is good too.

One of them is George RR Martin.
And before, it use to be Robert Jordan in the beginnings of The Wheel of Time before he turned mental.
