    Changing Fonts

I wasn't sure where I should post this question, settling on this forum because the question is about a published work by a non-member.

I'm currently reading Lost by Gregory Maguire. He's the author of the book Wicked and other similar stories, in case you need a point of reference.

As I was reading the book over the weekend, I came to a part where the font of the text changed completely. I don't mean he suddenly used italics or bold, I mean it's a completely different font. The narrative tone remained the same, in my opinion, so I can't really fathom why a different font would be used in the middle of a story. It went on for not quite two full pages then returned to the font used throughout the rest of the story, to the point I've read.

Anyone got any ideas? Is anyone else familiar enough with Maguire's work to know why he'd do this?

That's a strange one. I make regular changes to fonts in my work, to find one which is readable but uses less space and therefore means less pages to print. Since I don't want to change the style of chapter headings, I can't highlight everything as one. I have to highlight each chapter individually and change the font. I imagine it would be easy to skip over a chapter, though I doubt that's the case with Maguire.

I think I have solved the mystery! The story is about a writer so I think the change in font is meant to indicate the story within the story. The MC, Winnie, is writing a story and the different font must be what she's writing. I tried to pay closer attention and in the page before the new font reappears, she's sat at a cafe or something and she pulls out her stenographer's pad with all the notes she's scribbled on it.
