Does anybody else read the OZ books by Frank L. Baum and what do you think of them

When people think of Oz They think of the great and one of the best movies of all time the Wonderful Wizaed of Oz but they would be suprised that there are over 40 books of Oz and how different the story of the first book which the movie is based on is different from the movie like Dorothy's slippers are sliver not ruby, the book also tells how the Tin man became the Tin Man and Oz itself is different the munchkin land is blue, the winky country is yellow, and of course everything is green at the center where the Emerald City is. the rest of the books are good to read and there are other characters beside the ones we know and love, like the true ruler of OZ, Ozma, the Patchwork Girl , and Tick Tok and who created this wonderful land and its characters Frank L. Baum of course he wrote 14 books about Oz beginning with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz which was published in 1900 and his last Oz book was Glinda of Oz now other people have written about the wizard of OZ like Wicked by Gregory Maguire which shows there was more to the Wicked Witch than just a villan. but everybody will remmber the first book which inspired one of the greatest movies of all time the Wizard of OZ here is a list of the 14 OZ books writtan by Frank L. I have very good memories of the Oz books from when I was a kid, I think about 7 or 8... during the summers I would visit my grandparents, and oftentimes I'd go down to the library and check out about four or five of them at a time. I'd spend all summer swimming, climbing trees, and laying on the living room floor reading those books. I read all of Baum's originals and quite a few of the Ruth Plumly Thompson continuations. I read a few of the authors that came after that. I believe John R. Neill, the illustrator of the books, actually wrote a few. Now they all blur together, but I do remember how much I loved those books.

As an adult I read "Wicked" and "Son of a Witch" and liked them pretty well. (Haven't picked up the third one yet.) Although I can enjoy these books as twisted, dark fantasy tales, with them it's a completely different feeling from the old series. They are interesting re-imaginings... I like how he uses events from the original first few books as well as the 1930s movie. The books are enjoyable in their own right. (Although I thought "Son of a Witch" kind of lost focus and the plot kind of meandered aimlessly.)
