    Clearwater/Clear Creek Special

    Hi All,

I remember that when I was learning to write a teacher of mine showed me a one-sentence essay written by an author at a school by the name of Clearwater, Clear Creek, or something similar. The school is an alternative college for the insanely gifted where the students study at night and operate a self - sustaining ranch during the daytime. The essay is a one sentence essay about the ranch with absolutely marvelous uses of dependent clauses. If you know what I'm talking about or know where to find it, I'd be very grateful for any help. I'm teaching a writing class and have been looking for a copy to show the class without any luck.

Alternatively, if you have any works/essays that you found particularly inspirational or helpful when you were learning to write, I'd love to hear about those as well.

    Happy writing!

I can't help you directly, there is a letter from Samuel Pepys to a Captain reprimanding him for not being with his ship but in London that is a wonderful illustration of how we have moved away from the use of such sub clauses, even more so because the captain followed it perfectly and replied in kind when it took me several reads to extract the sense. This despite the fact that ship's captains were noted for their lack of education and regarded as coarse fellows at the time.
