Any popular / chart fiction recommendations?

I read quite a bit of literary fiction (just finished Kafka's 'The Trial') and some non-fiction books and although I enjoy them I am quite keen to try something a bit more mainstream.

I think this is because I've recently started working in a book shop and I see a lot of the same books going through the till (Steig Larson being a prime example). And so I am wondering whether anyone can point me in the direction of a good book in this vein. Not so much because I want to keep up with the latest chart-topping fiction, mostly because I just want to try something that's easy to digest, accessible and above-all enjoyable.

    Cheers.

If you are into sci-fi, William Gibson is good. Iain Banks is good with sci-fi and fiction. Both are easy to read and provoke thought. Irvine Welswh is really good and funny as hell. For non-fiction, Bill Buford, 'Among the Thugs', about English football hooligans. 'My War Gone I Miss It So," by Anthony Loyd.
