I want reccomendations for fiction story

I want to know a book that is VERY VERY DEEP in it's meanings. For example, I think 1984 is deep. Can anyone recommend me one?

"The Glass Bead Game" by Herman Hesse is profound, as are "Island" and "Brave New World" by Huxley.

"Inferno" by Dante (if you want to delv into 14th century literature), "To Kill a Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee, "Animal Farm" by George Orwell.

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Chapter 25 floored me: "...and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath".
    First this one story...

I wonder if you are Japanese or merely located in Japan, that's an impressive reading list if you are not a native English speaker.

    Finnegans Wake by James Joyce.

Jalousie and Voyeur by Alain Robbe-Grillet. (You didn't say it had to be English, but good English translations are available.)

    The Plague by Albert Camus.
I guarantee you will discover a dizzying variety of multiple meanings in each of these books. If you are still hungering for "deep meaning" after you have finished these three, try anything by John Cheever or Doris Lessing.
Will you ever write a story for which no character will have cause to reproach you? (Stephen R. Donaldson: "The Creator" to Thomas Covenant)

'Too Loud A Solitude', by Bohumil Hrabal is all about meaning and it's funny and scary at the same time.
